lflowers
Hi, new member here wanting some advice on an irritating problem. I have a MK6 1.3 Ford fiesta that has a strange noise when accelerating. The noise will start at around 3.5k revs and continue to get worse up until around 5.5k revs and then die down. The sound sounds like it is coming from around the pulley area of the engine. I have changed the idler pulley but hasn't made a difference. I have also taken the alternator off but it seems fine. I have noticed though that the pulley on the tensioner seems to have bit of play in it and the power steering pump pulley has a bit of play in it as well. I have also put the idler pulley i thought was broken on the tensioner pulley to see if it made a difference but it didn't. Not sure whether this has anything to do with the noise but on start-up the belt squeaks every few seconds until the engine is warm. A passenger has taken a recording of the noise when accelerating from a standstill and revving up to around 5k. Any ideas as to what it could be would be greatly appreciated. Ffoxy
Hi, there should be no perceptible play in any pulley. Swap the lot if the car is no longer fresh and maybe has a few miles on it, theory being that once one starts complaining the rest might to, and doing them all at once saves time off the road while you have the tools out. ;)
lflowers
Thanks for the reply Ffoxy, will give it a go and see what happens, the car currently has 89000 miles on it and like you said better to get them all out of the way rather than doing one at a time ;)
