Never heard of it being referred to as a combi

For those of us old enough to remember the 1980's, Ford used to refer to car derived vans as Combi's here in the UK.

Thanks to everyone on here as I just took my 2016 Ford Edge vignale in with this same problem and I quoted the problems here with possible remedies.  Within an hour they told me that it needed a

No disaster there. Headlamp flash shouldn’t really be used to wave folk out of junctions anyway. It should only be used to warn another road user of your presence. It has become an “after you” type si

  • Ha, very good point! I'll keep the forum posted on progress. Thanks to all for the advice.

I hadn’t realised that and I’m a lot older than 1980’s. I remember the. Vauxhall Combo that was a Corsa car derived van.

So today I unplugged the battery for 10 min, I started the car 3 times in total, I was driving almost whole afternoon, and so far the error didn't show up. One more thing I noticed is that the gas pedal is more responsive, before there was about 15-20% deadzone, now it's responding as soon as I press it. Hopefully the error won't come up again.

I’m assuming your car is out of warranty, so Ford will not pay for this. The best you could hope for is contacting customer care and hoping they will contribute something towards the cost. The fault is well documented in numerous forum threads here and elsewhere so Ford should not be surprised at an approach by you.

Saw post by Hamster to disconnect battery for ten minutes. I’ve had this problem for two years and recently it’s constant. Disconnected battery for ten minutes and it worked!!! Thank you Hamster!

HIi,

Got this error since 2 weeks ago. Got scanned by local workshop mechanic and he said the something wrong with the module.

I have to try this disconnecting battery method. Do you get any error back after while?

When you disconnect the battery , it is the negative pole first, isn't it?! It is quite cramp there.

A few weeks ago I had this a couple of times on my Mondeo.

It disappeared after washing the car.

That's good to know. So you just have to wash the car more often 🤣

Hi all, I know this problem  has been going on for some time, but I would just like to know, if the warning of the adaptive  headlights comes on every now and again, how can this be a permanent  fault,  it would  either work or it won't,, I don't get why turning the engine off then on cures  the problem  for the time being, surely  this must be a software problem and not a physical one, and why didn't  ford do a recall, as far has I'm concerned this is  a dangerous  fault and should have been recalled.

PS I don't think I'll be buying a ford again

Perhaps you're more of a Jaguar person ?

I have a Ford Edge Sport 2017. Two years ago I started having the dreaded "Check Adaptive Headlights" message. Didn't think too much of it as it cleared itself with a restart and was happening rarely. After a while became annoying, happening very often to the point that three months ago the lights always failed the test. I scoured the internet for answers and I found answers only in this thread.

I tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, charged the battery to maximum but it did not work. Everything pointed to changing the headlights but at 1800 Eur a piece it was way too expensive for me. I found some cheap (500 Eur a pair) identical Headlights (at least in the photo) on Aliexpress but did not find the courage to buy them. I thought they will not pas the initial test and the the high beams will not work. I was using the car only during the day for three months.

So I tried to repair the Headlamps, but the shop was reluctant to take them on. Anyway while I was there I saw some opened headlights from other cars and you could see some plastic joints connecting the motors with the bulb assembly.

One day I needed it by night so I thought I was going to register the lights to their maximum via the plastic screws. They failed the test and the lights were lowered so much you could not see mor than 5 meters in front of you. I switched it off and registered the lights to their minimum. Switched the car on and to my surprise they passed the test. I just registered them normally and drove without switching off. Next time I switched on the car they failed again. I did the trick again and it worked. I did this two or three times and I noticed that they were passing the test more and more. At one time I decided to register them to the minimum then maximum for like 5 time in a row. They were behaving better but any time I set the registering to their old optimal place they failed. I finally registered them just a bit higher and they are working all the time for like 10 days now, finger crossed.

My theory is that after some years the plastic joints are consumed at some place and by registering them to a higher or lower position you are using them on some non-consumed part and they are working, or maybe there is some type of lubricant that has dried and by moving them you redistribute it.

Anyway I thought to share my experience if someone, like me, is still stuck with an Edge which by the way is a very good car if it was not for the low build quality on so many parts.

Hi everyone

I have had the same message pop up now and then but pressed ok and error went away

This time, error is permanently on and I have both head lights out?

is there anything to try before it goes into a dealer.   Such as fuses? Or disconnect battery?

I have put it on a trickle charge first

appreciate some advice
