simonb65
Just been offered an update via Ford Sync Update which has: 8L2T-14D546-AF.CAB, BT4T-14D546-EE.CAB and GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ in the SyncMyRide folder. It also has quite an extensive set of install criteria in the Install.lst file which covers everything from ... [Windows Mobile For Automotive 5.5] to [Windows Mobile for Automotive 5.8], [SYNCGen2_0.0.00000] to [SYNCGen2_5.4.10059], [SYNCGen3.0_0.106.15244] to [SYNCGen3.0_3.4.18347] ... however, when I try and install it, I get a LST_ERR04 error! Has anyone else seen this and what was the fix? I'll be buggered if I'm going to pay Ford £1/min on their techincal helpline as the number given with the error code '020-3564-4444' redirects you to '09065 533447 (a premium premium rate number), just to tell them their update process doesn't work!! No wonder they never fix stuff, they aren't getting any user feedback!
pragmatix
So do you have it downloaded and unzipped to a usb stick? Is the error coming when you try to upload to the car? Check the stick is formatted to exfat and nothing else is on the stick.
Stoney871
The problem I believe is easy-Your update appears to be for Sync2 (the files mention Windows 5.5) whereas Sync3 is QNX based which is a derivative of the Blackberry OS.Are you searching for the correct Sync system on the update site?Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)

simonb65
It was offered on the website for my VIN. I've done numerous updates before, so yes, on exFAT, on a clean USB stick, same stick as I always use. The contents of the install.lst is large, but does contain a tag for [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025], no SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025_PRODUCT though (if that is relevant. EDIT tried duplicating the [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025] sections with [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025_PRODUCT] still no change!). Oddly, the header states Microsoft, but strangly the tags cover the current QNX based Sync3 ... simonb65
Unpacking the .CAB files and looking at the code, they are Microsoft windows files !! However, the TAR.GZ files contain UNIX script files that you normally find on QNX systems (yet they are included against Sync2 tags!). The GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ is a logfile creation script! Looks like YET ANOTHER Ford software deployment F**k up!

Sorry if i`m being a bit slow today but just need a wee hand.. Thanks. You can't do anything! If you have Sync3, these files are not suitable for your system! They have been issued to you in error by Ford. I have also had similar updates offered this week that too are not suitable and cannot be used to update a Sync3 system. eddiek
So is this update not Fords attempt to give us the GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ on a separate download so as we can generate the log file to upload back to Ford site. ?
simonb65
1 hour ago, eddiek said: So is this update not Fords attempt ... I'll agree that it's an attempt as something! but unfortunately you can't run UNIX scripts on Sync2 (a Microsoft platform) and you can't open or install windows CAB files on Sync3 (A blackberry QNX platform), so the install.lst file by its nature is attempting to do something that isn't possible (Its like trying to install an android app on an iPhone!). If you try it on a Sync2, you may get the CAB file installed, but the later TAR.GZ files would produce an error. In Sync3's case, the error is produced when it hits the first CAB file. Now, my system is Sync3 with a build ID of SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025. The install.lst (which should be autoinstall.lst for Sync3) contains the following actions, which are 'applicable' for my build ... [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025] Open1 = SyncMyRide\BT4T-14D546-EE.CAB [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025] Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ The first causes the error (on my Sync3) as its a Microsoft file. The second is fine as its a UNIX script (which happens to be the script that creates log files). You can't have a single update file for ALL versions of Sync. You certainly can't have build ID tags for (in the case above SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025, that point to mixed platform install files! So, yes, its an attempt be definition, but a massive FAIL from the deployment team! I was a Principal Engineer for JCB Embedded Systems and responsible for service tool, firmware update protocols, vehicle network security, telematics development (LiveLink) and over-the-air (OTA) update strategies ... so I have a little knowledge on these things.
TDCiST
@simonb65 the Sync Saga continues... chucked my vin in today... a map update is required of "0MB"... So I download it... the files in syncmyride folder?? 2x CAB files, and the log creation file... Seems like somethings going very wrong at FordHQ... 8L2T-14D546-AF.CAB BT4T-14D546-EE.CAB GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ Although in the install.lst file... it does give a sync 3.0 build 18025 instruction to try and open the cab files... [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025] Open1 = SyncMyRide\BT4T-14D546-EE.CAB along with other various ones... So ive been offered this after updating to F8 the first time with no log file, then downloading the new update and writing a log file after 2 mins, and after uploading my log file to ford... Just do a search on the web for Sync errors/issues, across the model fleet with both Sync2 and Sync3 its been this chaotic for over 2 years!! No wonder they are loosing sales and starting to make a loss. If this is their software team, just think what their Production, Development, Customer Support and Technical teams are like! CAR CRASH is probably the most appropriate term to use here!
davecm
If you have done a Sync or maps update and no log file has been created, the utility to create a log file is available on the Ford Netherlands website here:- https://www.ford.nl/content/dam/guxeu/rhd/central/owners/resources-and-support/sync-%26-bluetooth-support/update/documents/Interrogator_AB.zip Instructions translated from Dutch:- Do you experience problems creating a log file during a SYNC 3 update? Then follow the steps below to solve the problem: Download this file (ZIP 44KB) . Unpack the file and copy the contents to a USB stick. (The USB stick must be formatted in ExFAT) Get in your car and turn on the engine Insert the USB stick into a USB port on your Ford once the SYNC 3 system is fully booted. Make sure that no other USB devices are connected. Wait until the message 'Installation complete' appears (this takes about 1 minute). Now a new log file should have been created on the USB stick. Go back to your computer and confirm the update by uploading the log file to the Ford website. Note: There's a file missing from that download too, but it's of no consequence, as it just stops the car from searching for music files on the USB stick. When you install it there will be a message like "Indexing USB stick" for a short while, which you can ignore. I've also found that doing a manual search for updates via wi-fi never finds any updates, but it does seem to achieve the same result as uploading the log file. Several attempts are often needed until the last search date displayed is today and the time is now. Then wait a couple of working days, and a search for updates on the website should show your car is up to date.
Stoney871
Just transfer the DONTINDX.MSA file from any sync update download and it will solve the indexing lag.Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)
davecm
I contacted Ford customer service about the 0Gb download containing a file called Install.lst and in the SyncMyRide folder several CAB files plus the TAR.GZ file which normally creates the log file. This is an invalid mixture of Sync2 Windows Auto files and the Sync3 log file tool. They confirmed there is an issue with the download process which they are working on, and to re-try in 2 or 3 weeks. I re-tried a couple of days ago and a new map preparation progress dialog screen appeared, with a series of alternating messages to the effect that the "download was being prepared", "could take some time", "nearly finished" which ran for a couple of hours then terminated with a failure message. No file was downloaded. I tried again today and it was back to the old screen, with the same old 0Gb invalid Sync2 download again. I'm guessing they implemented a download system upgrade, which didn't work, so they reverted back to the old one, which also doesn't work 🙂 Since the master reset, the F8 maps appear to now work correctly as far as navigation goes. I haven't encountered any speed limit errors, unlike F7 maps, so far. The 2 outstanding issues are 1) Favourite number 3 is corrupt with no saved data and cannot be edited or erased other than by a master reset, after which it becomes corrupt next time I try to enter a new destination in No3. 2) The entertainment audio is not muted during navigation voice instructions.
jamieburchell
Just entered the VIN for my 2018 Ford Focus on the Ford update website and was told that my software is "up to date" and that "no action was required", but I was offered a map update of 0MB. Download contains SyncMyRide folder, which contains only GB5T-14G386-AB.TAR.GZ. There doesn't appear to actually be enough content in the tar file to be any sort of update: Decoded_ODL.xml GB5T-14G386-AB.sh utloggingutility Version.der "Installation Failed. Error code: LST_ERR04". The "search for updates" facility on the Sync3 unit itself (when it doesn't just continue forever without timing out) just says "Last checked for updates" and then the current date stamp. 😕

Comares2001
The log file can also be downloaded separately from the Ford map update website. The file link for this can be found under "Troubleshooting"
