Tyre foam gunk Mk8 fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi

Seen as the mk8 fiesta doesn’t come with s spare wheel as standard and instead the foam stuff, I wondered would it still have a jack?

Can you inflate a tyre with that foam gunk without jacking car up?

Thanks

Yes you can

And no jack with an inflator kit.

My wife suffers from Type 1 Latex Allergy and, as a result, I run a website for the Anaphylaxis Campaign ( LASG if you want to look it up).   It tickles me that Ford advertise their cars as latex free yet allow that type of thing in their cars.   The 'gunk' is pure latex and would be lethal to my wife; hence I won't allow it in my car and have a spare wheel instead.

One and only time I used a gunk kit the tyre deflated again a half mile down the road to the nearest garage. Wouldn't rate them at all - I've had a spare ever since.

I hate the gunk kit for one reason - no tyre shop wants to repair a tyre that’s had the gunk used on it. So you’re left looking for a new tyre. Depending on the wear on the tyres, i usually replace the tyres together on the same axle so that’s now 2 tyres. If running premium tyres, you’re looking at more than £200 simply because of a puncture that should cost £10-£20 to repair if you have a spare tyre.
For the MK8, I bought the original alloy and a used tyre that fit, same size as the spare tyre spec. Cost about £50-60 altogether and it’s the best cash I’ve spent despite not having to use it yet.

Won't be able to repair a tyre that's deflated very quickly, hole will most likely be too big for the latex to seal it.

It's about time these inflators & sealant is made illegal and go back to the spare wheel & jack.

interesting , mine came with a spare wheel and a jack !! however the spare wheel size is 14 inch which has a temporary spare tyre, main tyres fitted on the vehicle is 15 inch 🙂  mine is mk8 1.0 100 ps automatic , its category is " Trend ", comes with steel wheels, however the " titanium " one comes with 16 inch alloy wheels and the tyre repair kit ( no spare wheel ) 🙂 just wanted to share this with you.

I have 2015 fiesta diesel ‘econetic’ . Has 175,65,14 tyres on car and matching spare. I think when this car was new it was the only car ford sold in U.K. where you did not have to pay for a spare wheel. Strange that they did thAt on the econetic. I would have added a spare if it was not included.

I always try to specify my cars with a spare wheel where possible.

Same, but mine has the the subwoofer in its place unfortunately.

By the way does anyone know where the lock wheel nut is stored in the fiesta mk8?

Try in the glove box.

The sub-woofer unplugs in a matter of seconds. It's one of those choices: do you want the security and convenience of a spare wheel or a nice bass note on your stereo while you wait to be recovered to the nearest tyre outlet on a cold, wet Sunday evening? I know which I prefer.😎

Music of course [emoji6]

Do both, I bought a spare wheel and bag for it then left it in the bottom of the boot. My Fiesta did have a variable boot floor, so I hid it under there, but even without you could just leave it in the bottom of your boot and keep the sub attached. If you need a flat floor, then just get some MDF or plywood, cover it and make your own extra floor.

For sure the spare would be preferable, but I'm not prepared to take out the sub straight after buying the car, and although some say they have both spare and sub that would take up a lot of boot room. I had a space saver in my 2010 Focus and never once needed to use it luckily. Touch wood I will never need to use that foam stuff. At a later date I might consider removing the sub though.

Cheers

In all fairness, the spare wheel would probably produce better bass than the sub on my MK8.

he can remove the sub and install the wheel for longer trips , best of the two worlds 🙂

Best of both worlds is to leave the sub in and put a spare in the boot, or your nice long trip has a lesser music experience, which is when I'd want to listen the most.

In mine there is a place for the locking wheel nut in the foam moulding in the middle of the spacesaver spare wheel, along with the jack etc.

I checked today when I took it for a test drive, was in the glove box, I will move it to that moulding when I have the car.

On the subject on the boot moulding, there is small section that stores the foam kit and pump, next to it is a larger compartment but its empty?

I've obviously got a different moulding with having a mini spare, but the only other thing in there is the funnel for getting past the easyfuel system in case you need to fill from a can.

Been trying to find the answer to this one.So the sound system still works ok minus the sub-woofer, just with less bass?

Cheers, forgot about the funnel, will check that when I pick it up.

Love the sound of the 1litre engine, I only took it for a short drive in town so didn't go above 30, I reckon I will notice more power in the higher gears, 1st to 2nd needs quite quick changes    as well, I presume 3rd 4th 5th gears I will notice the turbo kick in.

Yes it's quite a fun thing to drive!😀 Just had an enjoyable drive over the North York Moors to Whitby for a couple of days at the seaside, and I had a heck of a job trying to stay under the limit.
