What do you like about your Fiesta?

Featured Replies

I thought I’d follow up the topic in the Focus forum with one for us Fiesta lot. So what do you like about you Fiesta? For me:

1) The looks. The ST Line body kit and chrome blue paint combine really nicely.

2) The SYNC3 system, I’ve had zero issues with mine and find it really useful and easy to use.

3) The EcoBoost engine pulls well at all speeds and if I didn’t know better, I wouldn’t believe it was only a 3 pot.

4) Haven’t been on a proper nice road yet, but it handles nicely.

There are only two dislikes for me, the fact it had manual rear windows in 2020, and the 6 speed box isn’t as nice to use as the old IB5 I had in my Focus.

I like just about everything but especially the Ecoboost 100 engine that drives like a 1.6

St-Line body kit as well, really like that it hasn't got all the chrome effect trim like my focus titanium had.

Jet washers under the hood, I only noticed this after purchase but love that the windscreen washer jets are on the underside of the hood, so no drips along bonnet when using them.

Panoramic sunroof, not used it yet, but will do a lot in the Summer.

LED headlights, brilliant light output and auto beam works very well. I drive a lot at night in the week and these make such a difference.

1l engine, love the growl of it, pulling away, its not the quickest but then I haven't really put my foot down to test the engine.

18" alloys and Michelin Pilot sport 4 tyres, ride is smooth and gives excellent grip in wet and dry conditions.

@dtulip8

I have the electric front and back windows on mine, I guess it was a fitted option because it should really be standard on all cars now days like you say.

The electric windows were definitely an option on mine, might be standard on the X though?

They were still optional when I ordered my X. Can't find the option anywhere on the latest price list I've seen though (Jan 2020) so assume they must be now standard across the range?

Whats not to like tbh ,punchy , easy to maintain ,easy to wax n detail , i like the fact mines a bit of sleeper :driving:

do like the sport van. Takes me back to my time at college when a mate had a Minivan with a Cooper S engine but no visible mods at all - definitely a sleeper!😀

As I think I mentioned somewhere else, I like best of all that the car has always started first touch of the button, despite being left out in all weathers for 2 years and not driven every day. On your points:

1. Yes, it's a very nice looking car. Only snag is mine (is it because it's red?) seems to attract imbeciles who must  get past whatever the circumstances. And no, I don't drive too slowly!😀

2. Sync - mine's on 3.0 and to me it's more like a system still in Beta test, pretty rubbish compared to the VW system in my previous car. Later versions I've tried seem better, though.

3. Yes, engine very impressive for a 1.0 3 pot. Just wish there was more of it without having to go for the more unforgiving seat/suspension in an ST though.  ("What to get next? " is my current dilemma).

4. It's a very good handler, without shaking your fillings out on poorer surfaces.

Not that worried about the rear windows - with climate I rarely open the front windows, let alone the rear.

Agree on the gearbox. They seem to vary - mine is ok-ish but a bit clunky 1st to 2nd and travel a bit long, not as snappy a change as the Mk 7s we had. On the plus side, no sign of it breaking as the Mk 7.5 seems to have been prone to!

Well, mine is a Mk7.5 ST-Line and here's what I like about it.

Small but nippy engine for a 3 cylinder (140ps) and picks up speed in all gears
Sporty seats are comfortable
The ride isn't too stiff (but you do still feel the potholes with it having 17" alloys and semi low profile tyres)
You can throw it around and it handles well
The styling of the bodykit is lovely (I prefer it over the Mk8)
Racing pedals
DAB radio picks up lots of stations
The speakers are quite good (people have often asked if I have a subwoofer installed when I don't)
USB/aux MP3 audio is good.
Sat-nav
Hands free communication via bluetooth
Front and rear heated windows
The colour

All friends and family who have seen the car or been in the car love it.

whenever these questions are asked I always say Quickclear windscreen.

When i talk to people it seems many people think it's just for when there is ice on it, not so, also use it for when it's misting over, as it's silent, much better then having the fan on full blast sounding like a jet engine in the car. And with a diesel it takes a long time to get any heat out of the heater

The lovely 3 cylinder thum that the engine gives when you rev it. It sounds far better that the clattery diesel I had before. However it might have the same power, but I miss the extra 100 lbft the 1.9 TDI gave. In saying that, I've read the Ecoboost is very torquey for a 1.0l and am finding it has got a quite smooth power delivery. Previous car got all torque at 2k rpm.

I love all the toys it's got. Cruse, DAB, Satnav, Climate, heated windscreen, etc. Also like the rear camera, but wish it had a washer, as it gets mucky too quickly.. I thought I'd hate not having a key to turn to start the car, but I now I'm so used to a button. Feel in your pocket the unlock button, sit down press start. If passenger has a key you don't even need one!

Maybe I'm going soft, but in these cold mornings, I wish the leather seats (& Steering wheel) were heated. I had no problems with cars with cloth seats.

Strange the Trend has electric rear windows, but the Titanium & the ST Line drop them.

I think the LED headlights are great. I work some 7 miles outside of my hometown and driving down the unlit road in the evening is actually safer, imo, now I can see where I’m going compared to my old MK6.5 Fiesta.

First time with heated seats and steering wheel and whilst I’m not a fan of the steering wheel being hot I do love the warm seat.

The overtaking ability of the 125ps engine. I’m used to being able to easily overtake on a motorbike but this is the first car I’ve had where I actually look for overtakes and not just sit behind someone on single carriageways.

Wish I had the LED lights on mine, find the default headlight a bit naff but still better than my old car.

Ok, I will just be repeating things (there are already couple of threads similar to this one) .

When I ordered my car, I was told by the dealer not to bother with led headlight units when I requested them. They said the light output wasn't very good, especially in fog and heavy rain etc. I can only take their advice. I am not annoyed whatsoever that I did not argue and take led headlights. The light output on the Mk8 is much better than my old mk7.5, they were right about that so I feel I trust their judgement. I have also read that some are a little disappointed with them...

As some know, I thought my Mk7.5 StL 140 was very good, but the features and improvements on the Mk8 StLX 140 far outweigh anything (including engine noise and gearbox) the Mk7.5 could offer.

Ford app is very useful having the connectivity with the car for journeys, a tracker, fingertip information etc. The 18 inch wheels look great, the 140 engine is very good and gives that bit of zip when needed, nice stuff suspension, autowipers (now I am used to them), auto main beam, auto lights blah blah blah have made this a good car for me.

As i put miles on the clock (nearly 800 now, haha) the engine/exhaust is getting a definite better note on accelerstion, it appears a deeper tone. May even push to a panel filter to increase this, if it does??

Would I swap back now? Definitely not, I was apprehensive at first, especially with the issues the Mrs had with hers but the car has grown on me. At this moment in time, I will stay with Ford. Next time I change will probably be to a Fiesta hybrid if they are out in a couple of years.. It is looking like the Mrs is interested in the EcoSport St line (with packs) later this year, purely for a higher ride height and the looks. She has already knocked the new Puma back as she doesn't like the shape and looks but that is another thread/topic.

I have read that some are disappointed with the LED headlights as well, but personally speaking I can't understand why, they give out excellent light output. They are brilliant on dark country roads, which I use a lot on way home from work. Basically the light output is great, the dealer who said the light output is not very good was just wrong, I just can't understand why he would say that.

I was similarly advised. I didn't need convincing as my previous SEAT had come with LEDs as standard and I saw no real benefit to them. I don't drive much on unlit roads nowadays anyway, but find the standard lights fine.

One aspect of lighting on the Fiesta I do appreciate is the (two) reversing lights which are very effective in conjunction with the rear camera which was recommended.

Does the heated seats and steering wheel have a button to operate these features, I'm wondering if my car has the heated steering wheel but I can't find a button so presume not.

I'm interested in that - I thought the 155ps version might be the answer to my wanting a bit more urge (particularly low down) than the 140, without going to the ST. I was chatting to my dealer about it when I had the Puma test drive (another thread) and they said nothing confirmed but they'd been given the impression the Fiesta would only get the 125 ps version which would be disappointing.

yep, if equipped, the buttons are next to the heated windscreen button. No button = not equipped.

The torque figures for the 155ps version would be interesting. The max torque for the petrol variants (ST excl.) is 180nm, i think the max gearbox torque figure is 215nm, would be interesting how close the mild hybrid gets to that as I can't see them fitting a new 'box to accommodate the mild hybrid components.

Though if the mild hybrid then only comes as part of the 125ps then that would indeed be very disappointing. My 140ps is more than quick enough but you do sometimes feel that an extra 10-15hp would really be the perfect amount. The 200ps from the ST would be perfect but in my opinion, new, the ST is just too expensive when well equipped so personally, I'd rather a pre-reg or slightly used Golf GTI.

Confusing. Probably personal opinion from owners who think they are poor and owners that think they are good.

If a dealer/salesman advises me against an option which is saving me money then I am not going to go against that advice. They could have sold them to me very easily, I appreciate their honesty and cannot fault what they said currently based on the for and against opinions I have read.

It's quoted as 240Nm for the 155ps in the Puma. Don't know if the gearbox is exactly the same as the Fiesta or not. In the 125ps version of the Puma I drove recently, reverse was in the same place but the shift felt tighter and more "mechanical" feeling than my Fiesta - could just have been "newness" I suppose.

Edit: PS just found an info sheet on line for the Getrag 6MTT215. Despite the 215 figure it said the box was suitable for mild hybrid applications and the max torque capacity was 240nm. So it could be the same box.

I still miss the torque of a diesel - a half-decent turbodiesel has twice the torque of the 140. To get near the same torque in a petrol, you have to go to 200ps plus top end which, realistically, with limits as they are and camera vans lurking everywhere, I don't need. So I thought the mHEV might be a decent compromise.

I would post some dash cam footage of them in use, down some country lanes, but haven't got a dash cam. Actually has anyone got recommendations on dash cams for the mk8?

@Eric Bloodaxe I too am impressed by the twin reverse lights, like you say it helps light it up for the reverse camera. Just little things that impress.
