Sync voice dial not working as expected. How can I fix it?

Hi,

I have a problem with the Sync and voice dialing in a new 21 plate transit custom limited.

When i press the voice control button on the steering wheel I dont get the ding and say command like the old one did. 

What it seems to be doing is trying to open google assistant on my phone.  Which as I thought should only happen if you hold the voice control button down.

How can i get it to use the default sync voice control?

I have connected it to wifi and checked for updates.  The updates site says all up to date when i put the VIN in there.

The manual I get from the VIN number gives instructions for Sync 2.5 and Sync 3 so Im not sure which it is.

Can anyone help?  This is hopeless without voice dialing.

This sounds like you have Sync 2.5 only, which does not have integrated voice control. I think on Transit you only get Sync 3.0 when you go for onboard satnav.

Hi its Bob again.

Sorry, you know how it is.  You post a question somewhere late at night and forget all about it.  Well here I am late another night wondering the same thing about my sync system and look in my bookmarks.  And here we are 🙂

Maybe it is a sync 2.5 then as its not the sat nav version.  Preferred how it worked in the last van to be fair.  Ive been using  Android Auto to do it but thats the google voice and it has to be plugged in the usb.  Its all very confusing 🤷‍♂️
