Retrofitting Cruise Control to 67/18 Galaxy

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My first time on here. I am looking at buying a Galaxy imminently - likely 17/18 plate from the ones I have been looking at. However, very few for sale appear to have cruise control.

Has anyone on here successfully retrofitted? Especially with original parts? (As several of the options online include a random stalk, rather than original steering buttons). Would be great to hear your experience/ insight.

I did search for similar posts on the topic, but they appear to be for older models.

I am trying to gauge the cost and process if I were to buy a galaxy without, and retrofit cc afterwards.

Thanks in advance

You can buy the cruise control switch pack, as its the same connector and all wires are there already, then just needs to be 'turned on' in the APIM with forscan.

That's interesting to know - I've fairly recently bought a '67 Galaxy Zetec that I was very surprised to find didn't have cruise control (more fool me for not checking!) and when I asked a couple of local Ford dealers (assuming they'd be most likely to know) they all said it wasn't possible to retrofit CC. Does it matter what derivative etc? Would you need a dealer to complete the software update if the buttons had been installed?

Cheers,

Sandy

I have installed CC in my car, it is not that hard job. you will need a CC switch and Forscan program to activate the switch.

Hello @khatana98 and welcome to the Ford Owners Club. I hope you will stick around and offer a few bits of advice to others like how and what they need to do to install CC on a Galaxy. Firstly I should warn you of the many OPW (one post wonders). This thread is a classic example:

F11 only ever made one post 15/11/21. They checked back 22/12/21 and that was that !! never been back again.

Phil7793 has made 6 posts, last one 25/03/22. They so far have not checked back for any response.

macaulays joined and posted 20/06/22. They also have so far not been back to see if there has been a reply.

Who knows, they might all suddenly return tomorrow 😉

Evening Unofix,

The reason I haven’t been back since posting above is because despite being subscribed to the thread, the platform did not send any notification of any further activity so I was not aware there was any anything to check back on - why you would be so concerned is slightly surprising….surely a single visit that might solve someone’s issue is potentially a good thing?? Hardly something that I would have expected an established member of a community to try and ‘name and shame’ new joiners about, what a way to encourage engagement…!

I shall not impose my seemingly inappropriate level of posting on your community any further; many thanks to those who posted helpfully in relation to my query. I’ll stick to Google from now on!

I have retrofitted Cruise Control on my 2017 MK4 Galaxy (I assume its the same configuration for MK5 Mondeo & MK2 S-Max?) There are several CC Steering Wheel button configurations, The photo 1 is the button configuration I used. I found the configuration details on another site (Can't take the credit 🥴) Please be aware that this information is to be used at your own risk!! I hope it helps & Good luck

UNOFIX.. I realize that this thread is over a year old 👍 (rule of thumb & all that!)

Yep me too I want cruise control, it's not the same driving without it tbh.

Where do you buy the cc pack please

You can buy a steering wheel from many of the later fords (Mondeo MK5, Smax ETC) from eBay for £50-70.

My advice would be to look for the same setup as the photo I posted, Then remove & refit the left hand switch pack from the replacement Steering wheel & program as shown in the details I posted 👍 Should be good to go 😉

Thanks for the reply, defo a job for next year when I get a bit spare time

Thanks Grisleigh, did you just have to change the button unit and the software tweaks or was there any wiring involved also? One of the dealers I spoke to seemed to think there might be wiring needed that wasn't there on cars not factory fitted with CC, was that an issue for you?

Cheers,

Sandy

Hi Sandy, there isn't any additional wiring involved ( If I'm correct in assuming that you have the blank button panel already fitted where the cruise control buttons would be if fitted? Lower left hand of Steering Wheel) if that is the case then it should be a case of retrofitting the switches as explained & programming as detailed 😊

Good luck & I hope all goes well (99.9999..% it will be fine)👍

Let us all know if everything works out OK?

so can you just replace steering wheel with cruise control and can it be programmed with launch diagnostic tool or it must be ford diagnostic tool

I don't know if "Launch" will give you access to the Modules requires? Forscan is free & an adequate (switchable) OBDII tool will cost somewhere in the region of £15ish (I use a VCXNano) both HS Can & MS Can,all of the info is freely available on the "Forscan" Website...

Regarding the Steering wheel swap..There are several Button configurations (Adaptive CC..Standard CC & various others)

My Galaxy is the Zetec Variant & the Button setup I've listed worked well for me 👍

I removed the switchpack from a Mondeo MK5 Steering wheel (I purchased from eBay) & replaced the my blank switchpack with the Mondeo one... Programmed the Modules listed with ForScan using a VCXNano & everything worked as if "Factory Fitted"

Well I'm eventually going to give this a go tonight, I haven't the hardware for mine yet but my mate has bought a secondhand wheel so swap it over and give it a go. So I'm presuming that the photo Mr Grisleigh has posted is all I need to do, just copy the photo settings and save.

Crikey hope it goes well it's not my car 😂

Best of luck! Let us know if all goes to plan.

I will do I will also let you know if it goes terribly wrong 😂

Well just finished and it worked a treat however slight differences to the configuration.

I only had to change the following

Cruise control to cruise control

Adjustable speed limiter to with asl, less isa

Sccm steering wheel switch config-left to ford Europe cruise with asdl

No cruise control switch or adjustable speed limiter could be found I searched for ages so we just give it a try for the 3 things I altered and it worked perfect.

My mate went home with a big smile on his face 😊

I'm going to do the same on my galaxy now so it's ready for when I get the hardware

Mine is already now for the hardware. Just got to find the part

Great, sounds like it all went like clockwork - new business opportunity retrofitting all those Zetec Galaxy's out there? ; )

😂🤣😂🤣I'm looking on line lots of Mk5 Mondeo steering wheels just need to make sure I'm ok to use one of them before I order lol.

My mate has been on the phone telling me how lovely it is to have cruise control lol

Well I ordered a steering wheel today from ebay for £45 delivered, its from a 1.6 mk5 Mondeo, looks the same but we will soon find out 😄

So should get it by Tuesday and I cant wait to have CC again, cant believe how much I miss having it. So my Gal is almost perfect now.

Well it's been sitting here still in the box, I've got so much to do at home in-between work just not had the time to switch it over although the software has already been done.

I will get it done before the weekend though and a service as well
