Not allowed, sadly, because the cops would say you did it in order to harm someone stealing your vehicle. Same for gin traps, broken glass on walls, gas bombs, harpoons etc. 

Whereas, if you were to find someone stealing your pride and joy, and you were to snatch up a brick from the garden and smash his brains out you could (just about) claim self defence. Truly, the law is a joke.

If you hit the perp more than once with the brick then you would be guilty of assault

I think the most effective measure I saw was a simple drop down pole at the front of a driveway.  You can still drag a car onto a trailer in seconds with a steering wheel lock (if you want it that badly), but there's no chance of manoeuvring around a solid pole unless you spend 10 minutes with a noisy grinder cutting through it first.

even on minimum wage it would be expensive to keep a Pole at the end of your drive every day  🤣
