Doesn't your car already have a factory fitted alarm.?

I've certainly not seen an option to not have an alarm in any of the ford car configurator options, I thought they'd been standard fitment for many years now?

Oops, 'assumption is the mother of all f' ups' lol

Just been thinking this OBDII port movement idea over, and conclude there maybe a better option.

Pins 4 & 5 are the vehicle ground (negative) connection, and pin 16 is the constant 12V positive.

If the negative and positive wires going to the OBDII port were interrupted at some convenient point (out of easy sight) and a double pole switch fitted, and say positioned inside the glovebox as an example, then the port would be effectively dead.

Any device that plugged in to the OBDII port would be unable to draw power from the vehicle if the switch was in the off position. Even if the potential thief's device had its own power source it would still be unable to connect because the Canbus system of the vehicle would not be sharing the same power source.

We thought it had a alarm ..It doesn’t ...

If you have a Disklok fitted with the wheels turned to full lock nobody is going anywhere with your car alarm or no alarm.

I believe it was easy to move an obd port on any model up to a 7.5 version, but 8 onwards they changed the port to a great big chunk of plastic which is hard to hide, so nobody making extensions for anything over 7.5 fiesta versions.

The OBD Port must be integrated with the Gateway Module on the later models. If so then it is quite chunky.

Personally, I'd wire the 12V power to the CANBUS signal wires. that should fry their cloning device nicely.

CANBUS is extremely robust that's one of the reasons why it's used in vehicles. Connecting the CANBUS signals to either 12V or GND won't damage the BUS signals....now a much higher voltage (greater than 50V) is a very different matter 😈

CANBUS is a differential signal bus system and as such doesn't need to be referenced to the vehicle ground so in all likelihood would work whether the vehicle ground is connected or not. As long as the vehicle ground and the external device ground are within the same common mode voltage range bus communication would still occur without invalid data transfer....
