APIM

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

So i think it's the apim that is dead, 2018 focus I have power everywhere including the back of the unit, can anyone recommend somewhere to buy one I have checked ebay but unsure to risk buying as it might be as dead as mine.

So you think think the APIM is dead !!

Why do you think that, have you connected up FORScan and tested it ?

If it is 'bricked' what did you do to cause the problem ? They can quite often be 'un-bricked' using updates from Cyan Labs

Hi mate, it's only thing left that I can think of, I literally switched it off and it wouldn't come back on, also USB port are not working, which then flips it, because that then means it's not the apim head is wrecked with it ha.

APIM failure for no known reason is extremely rare.

You need to get a laptop with FORScan and the new vLinker FS cable. Then you will be able to see exactly what the problem is and possibly even fix it.

FORScan download: https://forscan.org/download.html

vLinker FS cable: https://www.bmdiag.co.uk/forscan-diagnostic-cable-for-ford-vgate-vlinker-fs

👍 Just ordered it

You need to get FORScan (it's free).

You can use it to do a reset on the APIM. There has been many problems with 2018 models having APIM problems when the Sync3 system has failed to do the Over the air update correctly.

Legend mate, il let you know how I get on, it says it will be here tomorrow.

When using FORScan make sure that the car battery is connected to a charger and of course that your laptop is fully charged. If you need to restore the APIM back to the "As Built" factory settings you can do that automatically provided that your laptop is able to connect to the internet. There is a button at the bottom of FORSCan simply marked 'AB' which means download from the Ford server the 'asbuilt' file for your car. Only do this as a last resort and be sure to have a good internet connection.

Appreciate your help, could this also stop the USB ports from working, I know its all connected but don't know if that's possible?

Yes, the USB ports can be disabled by the APIM

This is more like a Canbus problem. All of those codes are basically saying that communication can not be established with the various modules.

Disconnect the car battery negative lead and leave it off for at least 30 minutes. Then reconnect and use a multimeter and measure the voltage across the battery terminals. Only if it greater than 12.4V should you use FORScan to clear and recheck for any new DTC's.

@iantt can you offer any advice on this ?

Have you tried  disconnecting the  battery yet?
