1.6 ecoboost coolant temp

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 ecoboost mechanic said the car goes limp mode and says overheating but pluged it in on live dianostic and everything seems fine all temps are ok

Had waterpump done 7months ago and havnt had any issues

Tryed need coolant temp sensor and still the same

Best to find out what codes are stored with forscan and a decent ELM327 interface.

@F0CUEcomes up coolant temp sensor. Replaced but made no difference

Cold engine but still says overheating as soon as turn car on but live dianostics says car temps are fine inside and outside

Tryed clearing codes comes back

It was running fine went in for clutch change and brakes then this happened when they restarted car

The wiring harness to the sensor must be damaged.

Leave the sensor disconnected and use FORScan (not a generic code scanner) and see if it says whether the sensor is open circuit.

check for recalls ?

the 1.6 overheats and catches fire

these are known to self destruct - there are recalls about clutch slip and overheating and something I don't get about some silly small bore coolant pipes that have a penchant for causing issues

@BotusHad the recall done last year it was clutch slip software

I think the idea designed in, is they do 60k miles then throw it away quick - it wasn't on watchdog because its a reliable long lasting engine - it was difficult to understand overheating issues that cause the car to self combust - ford didn't want to give you the new engine you need.  instead the accountants decided its cheaper for them to invent some software rubbish that does nothing alongside a warning message you notice after its on fire - and ideally the clutch abuse the tech's are asked to inflict upon your car "checking your clutch as they install the update"  is just enough you'll pay for that rubbish software update buying a new clutch a year after they almost finished it off
