An observation when driving the car today I noticed the clutch pedal is a lot lower than it used to be. It used to sit roughly in line with the brake and when I picked the car up it is way lower to the floor.

After driving the car today for some reason the clutch pedal has moved up back to where it used to sit in line with the brake pedal. What could have caused this to happen? Should I take it back to the garage and raise it with them?

I couldn't offer a definitive answer to the the clutch pedal having a different initial position but I suspect it is due to the pedal spring not being able to immediately balance the fluid volumes in the clutch master cylinder and lines.

FWIW I had the same effect recently after refitting an engine. Just before I took a first test drive I noticed the clutch pedal was low and didn't feel right. I initially thought the worse but after a number of gear changes it returned to normal.

The car has now covered a couple of thousand miles and the clutch is fine.

Thanks Tom. I've just emailed Ford. It is a long shot but I'll let you know if they do offer a goodwill gesture.

Thanks everyone. You're all amazing here.

I'd like to know what / if Ford do get back to you with some good news, as I'mc recently looking at buying a Mk3 myself

thanks

I hope everyone else's month is going better than mine.

Was on my way to hospital today, after rupturing my biceps tendon, and I heard a loud bang sound. Pulled over, but this time no oil pouring out from beneath the car.

Took the car back to the garage that "fixed" my car and the mechanic thinks it could be the gearbox "differential".

This is a complete disaster to say the least. Until I know more from the garage and their investigation I can't really say more.

Ford did get back to me but with a fob off to contact my local dealership in the town. I've had dealings with them in the past when I had a Mondeo and they were going to charge me £4k to replace the bottom part of the engine and flywheel. I took the said Mondeo to another mechanic and it turned out to be a split turbo pipe. So much for diagnostics. I was not impressed.

Although it's possibly down to bad luck, and a unrelated fault, I would suggest the latest failure is more likely associated with the previous gearbox damage.

It was not clear how the 'hole' in the gearbox casing had been repaired or whether it had been opened to remove any debris or have the oil replenished.

You're probably aware the moving ''differential'' transaxle components are housed inside the gearbox casing.

Assuming your mechanic has correctly identified the location of the failure it would seem that a replacement used, recon or new gearbox will be required as previously suggested.

I've once again messaged the garage today.

The reply back was "we need a new gearbox"

I've said that I take it this is covered under the warranty from when the gearbox was repaired. No reply back yet.

FINALLY got my car back. So pleased.

It's now had a reconditioned gearbox, new clutch and new flywheel. All seems OK.

What I am now thinking after all this trouble is whether to sell it on.

I love Ford but this really has made me think twice. Perhaps I was just unlucky.
