Sync 3.4 find a POI

Featured Replies

So I have just used the Cyanlabs to reformat and update my sync 3 to the latest version (I've been unable to use ford due to a mem-error01)

Everything has gone fine and running as expected apart from "find a POI"     Previously I could just say find a POI and it would just ask for the POI name.   Now it ask for name or category , then I have to spell the name.  Is this how it works on the latest version, or have I missed a simplification setting somewhere.

Thanks

Hi @Mark-UK,

I have exactly the same issue with the 'find an address' command - it just asks me to spell out a town name.

Which isnt what it used to do, so maybe this is the new 'Sync'??

Just been and tried to find an address, and it's quicker to stop the car and type it in than use voice command, it's basically useless having to spell everything, a real backwards step.

Yes, thats exactly what I thought!!

The old way of 'speaking' to the sync system was so much better, and I was impressed how quickly it would locate the address.

What version of sync was it please. In the next couple of weeks I was going to update mine to 22200. If this is the version you have downloaded I will hold fire for a bit.

This is on 22100 and F11 maps

Mark, might be worth checking CyanLabs and installing 22200. This might correct the problem

The only post I could find in the CyanLabs community was one with the same issue and the suggestion was to roll back to an earlier version. It looks to be a pretty rare bug from the small number of  complaints I see.

As I actually use the voice Nav very rarely I'll leave it at the moment and see what happens when 22200 become official from ford.

Mark, checked mine this afternoon and had no trouble with either addresses or POI's. As you say could be just a fault for a small number of people. I know when I got my 2021 Vignale there was no way I could get to download Sync 3.4  official Ford updates from the website. After many emails with  Ford technical division they did something their end and cured the problem. Even got a voucher for a free 1st service as well. Hope you get to the bottom of your problem.

John, what version are you using now

Mark, 22100 from CyanLabs

Hmm!   That's what I'm on.

I wonder if I can run the Cyanlabs updater again for the same version number and not update the maps, just to see if that sorts it out

Did you update the Ford website with the xml file. If not you could possibly download their version of 22100 and give that a try.

The ford website says I'm up-to-date on both sync and maps.  I'll try cyanlab again just to see what happens.

Mark, don't know how brave you are but could this be a help from CyanLabs.

https://cyanlabs.net/tutorials/sync-3-manual-method-update-to-3-4/

If you scroll down on this page to 'Downgrading' it looks like it tells you how to downgrade to a previous version and this I would assume give you a chance to re-upload again to the latest version.

Just a thought

I presume that you can run the Ford update again off the same USB stick?  Does it actually check whether the version it is trying to install is the same as the one on the system already?

Here is the link to the Sync 3.4 22100 product update:

I’ve just tried the POI and ADDRESS search are now a nightmare!

as someone commented it’s easier to stop and look up the post code and manually enter.

Without any clear instructions from Ford, once the map updates are installed, will it keep on installing the same update over and over? The reason I ask this is I'm having a nightmare not knowing when the update has finished. Or is it a case of once installed properly, it won't try to reinstall over and over again?

Once fully installed it will stop asking things like "key cycle required"

It will only install once. Even if you wanted to, and many people would like to, you can only fully install the update once. It can take nearly a full 3 hours to complete.

I have no idea what's even happened. Started at 1pm, it's almost 6. Had numerous errors, including memory error one right at the end, got fed up and have finished for the night. My car says I'm on F11, but I'm not sure it's fully installed. Why would it still be trying to install before the memory error if it was fully installed. No file on the memory stick either to send back to Ford.

Don't worry about sending the file back to Ford. The car can and will do that itself provided it has completed the update. If it does eventually generate the Ford update file you can upload it back to Ford.

Wait 24 hours after attempting the update and check the status on your car. If the update has be unsuccessful then the system will generally just roll back to the previous version.

The easiest and quickest way to sort your system out and update to the latest version is to use the CyanLab website. They are the same files and updates you get from Ford.

How does it roll back to F10 without any human imput? Am I best putting the memory stick back in and leave it in?

I'd leave the USB in for another 24 hours.

If the current update has partly failed it will not have actually implemented the change and will just roll back to the previous working version. The car just uses OTA to communicate with the Ford servers, provided of course you have enabled OTA updates in the Sync settings.

I'm guessing the usb not being in right now won't matter as I've finished for the night and back inside.

It seem that there is a fault in the F11 maps that causes the speak and spell issue, so it's either put up with it or roll back to F10 for now.
