Windscreen Washers Issue Ford fiesta st-line 2019

Featured Replies

Hi all the windscreen washers fluid on my Ford fiesta st-line 2019 has become a dribble on the front windscreen and non existent on the rear wash wipe.

I have checked the washer fluid level all ok and also used a needle in all the jets to check there are no blockages, there wasn't. The wipers are working fine.

Has anyone got any ideas or links to video where i can rectify or further investigate the issue.

Cheers

in advance.

After the recent extreme cold weather, and many days of minus 7oC or worse it cold be that the pump is damaged due to the freezing conditions. I think you are going to have to remove the pump and check it for damage and test it's operation. Was the screen wash fluid suitable for conditions of minus 10 ?

Could be a build up of algae / goo around the pump due to either mixing different brands of screenwash or using a insufficient strength.

You could try hot water ( not boiling ) pop in a couple of sterrident tablets for added measure and leave overnight. Or drain and fill with a warm citrus cleaner mixture and leave overnight. This will dissolve the goo if it’s not too bad. Flush through thoroughly afterwards. Alternatively pull out the pump from the reservoir, clean and refit.

Thanks for the help, I can't vouch for the screen wash quality, it was all working fine.

There is some pressure on the front windscreen jets, as I get an occasional splattering from the jets, just not a constant flow.

Is removing the pump an easy process are there any links on how to do it?

It's not a difficult process more just time consuming. I think on your model the screen wash tank and pump are located in the front passenger side wheel well. You need to remove the wheel and the plastic wheel arch liner to get at the tank. The pump is just a push fit through a very tight fitting rubber grommet.

Hi you don't know the part number for a replacement pump for a 2019 buy any chance or somewhere I can find it?

I don't have the part number but @iantt might know what it is.

I'd look at getting one from a scrapyard or eBay. A new pump from Ford is around £90

Thanks I haven't got the tools to access the pump so can't read the pump part number to order, I was going to get someone to install it for me but just needed to buy the new pump beforehand.

Thanks again.

I had similar - the intake filter on the pump was completely blocked with gunk, the only thing that fixed it was pulling the pump out of the washer bottle and physically cleaning the intake filter. Fortunately, on an st-line, it is really easy to get to the washer pump - just remove the driver side front fog light and it's right there behind it, easy access.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help, after numerous attempts with Steradent and Milton sterilising fluid which worked briefly I eventually got round to pulling the pump out.

I can't believe the size of the pump filter head. (see photos) almost destined to fail,  which as you said is do-able but a tight fiddle with my sausage fingers

All appears to be working ok now jets firing 100% I have added a new bottle of the minus -10 washer fluid to protect the pump and will avoid mixing washer fluid from various manufacturers as apparently they can react with each other creating the sludge issue.

I think the Steradent and Milton sterilising fluid might of cleaned the pipework and reservoir out to a point that it actually adds to the residue issues, dumping all the algae onto the minute pump filter head.

I have completely flushed the reservoir with pump out to remove hopefully any algae and residue.

Hope this helps someone.

Possibly a bit of an old thread now, @IM1, but any advice on how you managed to get the pump out? It looks as though you removed the fog light (as have I), but I can't for the life of me get the pump to shift out of the seal. There just doesn't seem to be anything to grip....unless I am being too delicate out of fear of breaking something??

Twist back and forth and PULL 👍
