1 litre Ecoboost, is it reliable or are they likely to fail?

. I wonder how the car market will differ in 5-10 years? Will petrol cars cling on?

It's an interesting question at the moment, with legislators (and some manufacturers) pushing customers towards EVs which they may not want, or can't afford, to buy, though 2035 is the current deadline for ICE.

But why not come and join the lively debate on this quite popular thread:

  • I'd seriously rather have a 1.0 Ecoboost with a busted belt and catch the bus, than an electric car

You know what! I was talking to some acquaintances at the gym on two seperate occasions and they both were not aware that you need to use a specific oil for the engine. One of them is on his 2nd ecoboost. 🙃

As the saying goes 'look after your car, and the car will look after you'. I average about 1,000 miles per year, but still change the oil and filter every year without fail. Looking at my DIY service book I changed the oil and filter on 5/8/23 (36,761 miles) and then again 5/4/24 (37,312 miles). Tried to put an endoscope in the sump but difficult to see if there's any nasties in the sump or oil strainer. Despite what I hear about these engines, I am going to keep mine even though it's coming up to ten years old and will need the belts doing. Zero road tax and cheap insurance means it will have paid for the new belts within 5 years or so.
