  • Id be more worried if it's up to pulling that heavy body

  • Most of the issues I've read with 1.5 ecoboosts are the 4 cylinder. If it's a 2019 or 2020 it will be the 3 cylinder 1.5 that's in the Fiesta ST.

Like what?

Don’t confuse the 1.0 and 1.5 3 pots. They are totally different engines.

Yes, like what please (looking at buying a 1.0 155 ST Line)

Different again...  155 is MHEV so chain driven instead of wetbelt on the older 1.0.

(Although the oil pump is still run by wetbelt - too soon to say how reliable that'll be.)

Sorry for any confusion (which ironically I was trying to pre-empt!).

I meant the 1.0 3 cylinder Ecoboost engines - the way the thread was going, I didn't want anyone to think that it was only 4 cylinder Ecoboost engines that were problematical.

Off on abit of a tangent here but my head has been turned by a Kuga (not the first time)

does anyone know if the 1.5 ecoblue is the same as in the focus and like wise is that a dry belt?

Same platform, same engine.

I had the same concern but went out for a test drive in one today and it was brill. I asked the question about belt as I’d spoken to a dealer that has one up for sale and they said it’s a wet belt. Which was surprising as like Alex said it’s same platform. Spoke to another Ford dealer and they confirmed it was the same as the Focus 1.5, dry.

Not that it’s a major issue anyway I’m reading far too much into it I think.

still not discounted the Focus estate but the specification I want is a struggle to find for a reasonable price. So I will look at Kugas also.

IF you do decide on the Kuga then I'd definitely look or at least test drive the 2.0 diesel especially if you have more than two in the car.

In our Focus 1.5 diesel, we used to have two 36kg Boxer dogs in the boot area and you could definitely feel the difference when they was onboard. If you are loading regularly with passengers you might even still be better ovv with the 2litre unit in the Focus.

My mum and dad pull a caravan with a 1.5 ecoboost Kuga no problem, so a 1.5 diesel should be even less bothered. They are geared differently to the Focus (shorter for more wheel torque).

You could get the 1.5 diesel and remap it. It'll remap to 140hp and 350 nm torque easy.

Good luck with that on the Mk4

Why does the engine not remap aswell as the previous one in the mk3.5?? Is it not the same engine but updated??

Not from what I've been told from numerous tuning companies. Not willing to touch it as its encrypted and cannot be simply flashed over as it would require complete removal and bench remap.

Superchips, currently £259

141 BHP

341 NM

I have heard that the 3 pot 1.5 Ecoboost 150PS is particularly unusual being severely detuned. Torque curves of the 150PS show this artificial bottleneck well.

The 182PS is the normative map for the engine and supposedly the 150PS map was only made as some half attempt at meeting some upcoming emissions target before being discontinued for the 1.0L instead.

The 3 pot 1.5 Ecoboost is very capable of a 200PS remap as it's included with the Fiesta ST from factory.

I can't speak for the EcoBlue, but the manual Ecoboost 1.5 is an easy remap. However the automatic with Bosch ECU is supposedly bootlocked and will require specialist tooling.

The 4 pot 1.5 is exactly the same.

The 150 and 180 PS maps are the same up to about 4k RPM, then the 150 maps starts to be limited to keep it to 150, where the 180 is allowed a higher torque curve over 4k RPM for the higher power.

The 3 pot 1.5 is still made for and sold in the Kuga and Fiesta ST. They've only discontinued the Focus version.

The 1.5L 182bhp version is  in the Ford Bronco in USA also..

Does the 2.0 diesel have a wet belt??? I didn't think it did.

Only the 2.0 Ecoblue

The older 2.0 TDCi doesn’t.

That more or less what I've been told regarding the 1.5 ecoblue.
