Phil-Robo
I've had starting issues recently with my 58 plate 1.25 Zetec MK6 Fiesta. When i turned the key to start the car the immobiliser light would flash quickly and there was a beep and it wouldn't start, then i'd try again the light would come on not flashing and the car would start as normal. The issues have got worse though and sometimes it would take about 10 goes to get the car to start turning the key on and off until it starts. Also the needles on the rev counter and petrol gauge don't move straightaway taking about 15 seconds and the trip meter on the small LCD screen stays blank for 15 seconds then comes to life. I've just had a new Ignition Switch fitted by an Auto Electrician hoping the problem was solved, but on the 3rd occasion of starting the car the key turned but the engine wouldn't turn over, then i tried again and it started so i still have a intermittent problem somewhere. The enclosed video is from this morning, the car starts ok but look at the display and you'll see what i mean, as for the car not starting i'd have to go out in it starting it numerous times when i guarantee the issue would arise. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nS6oGyOuNaEFxb7FdWziuykR5x_WgCOK/view?usp=share_link Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. unofix
The symptoms are those of the common problem of the soldering on the instrument cluster starting to fail. A general but basic test is to give the top of the dashboard a good "thump" with your hand when the problem occurs. If the fault changes when you hit the dashboard then it will be most likely the instrument cluster at fault. Many companies online offer a repair service for around £90 you just send it by post.
