Slight jump on press of the accelerator

Featured Replies

Hi all! I'm new here so hopefully I'm doing this correctly!

I have just purchased a very clean 2000 focus ghia estate which has little to no issues at all. The only thing which I've noticed so far is when I lift off the accelerator and go to press it again, the slightest movement of the pedal, it gives a little jump and continues to accelerate normally - almost like it's raring to go!

No issues with idle, no smoke, no odd sounds, clutch feels great for the age and no problems with shifting. The only thing to note is it hasn't moved much but has been cared for with new parts when needed and a relatively clean MOT - 16k miles in 9 years for clarity. Also, I've just filled it completely with e5.

Any ideas are much appreciated!

Thank you everybody 🙂

Giving the throttle body a clean would be a good place to start.  They get sticky over time so can 'snatch' as they start to open.  If that doesn't help, changing the throttle position sensor is probably the next step.

Lots of products available for cleaning the throttle body from many online sites.

Thank you @TomsFocus & @unofix for the great starting advice! I’ll make that my first point of call
