Help with a frustrating issue on a MK2.5 Focus TDCi

So an update... sadly the new regulator has not fixed the issue. Still getting 'engine malfunction' and cut out, and hard if not impossible to restart. I am at a bit of a loss now as to what to do with the car, it's likely we may consider scrapping it and getting a new one. Filter, and regulator changed. Same codes as before P0087 Fuel rail pressure too low.

I don't recommend cracking off injectors on a common rail diesel personally.  The rail is self-bleeding anyway.  If there's any air trapped, it'll be in the low pressure side.

We're probably going to replace the car in all honesty, it has been used as a flower van most of its life. In and amongst other issues like the fact it needs a new dual mass flywheel, and now the fuel

Yeah it's a 90ps variant, but registered in December 2010.

Have you taken a live data graph with the engine running?

There aren't many more parts it can be.  Rail sensor, engine loom or HP pump.

Not took a graph yet no... losing patience to keep going in all honesty. I can look at replacing the sensor, but failing that it will be the end of this car.

I get that it's frustrating but you've come too far with it to give up now.

If it'd run long enough to get to mine I'd give you the scrap value and persevere myself.  Though if you're 40 miles from a garage I doubt you're that local unfortunately.

I will keep trying to resolve this issue, I may even look at replacing the pump if I can get another second hand. The car has large sentimental value, but with having three other cars it's hard to justify keeping sometimes.

Sorry but just to recap, has your instrument cluster been reconditioned/ re-soldered?

if not, worth doing on mk2/mk2.5 Focus anyway.

need not be the wiring pins on the board but also resistor soldering has been found defected by some.

are you reading dtcs from both can busses ? many generic readers don’t.

It hasn't no, but there's no suspicious codes in the car that would suggest the car is intermittently losing connection between both the ECU and cluster. I've checked on Forscan, and using a Maxi Autel tablet I have. Just one recurring P0087 code, for low fuel rail pressure. Along with the lump idle, poor starting, and juddering I would imagine the issue is in fact fuel delivery related as apposed to PATS kicking in and disabling the car as a result of loss of communication between two modules. Putting aside those initial gremlins, the biggest issue is in fact when running at high speed/load the car throws up the engine malfunction warning, and cuts the engine. Once this happens, it's a real pig to get started again.

Thought I replied on Friday but can't have done.

The HP pump is a big job to change.  Requires the cambelt to be removed so that has to be replaced, and you really should change the water pump and tensioner as well if not done recently.  Even with a used HP pump you'd be looking at over £500 all in at a garage.

In and amongst other issues like the fact it needs a new dual mass flywheel, and now the fuelling issue. I think the end is near for it, since it's on 194k miles. Be easier to just replace it for say an actual van. I will probably fix it eventually, god only knows how. I might even stick another engine in it at some point. My only benefit is I have access to a four post ramp in a barn.

Update issue was never-resolved.

Car has been scrapped, and replaced. Should anyone in the future come across this post, I got code P0087 low fuel rail pressure, intermittent cutting out, followed by the 'engine malfunction' indicator. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, fuel rail pressure sensor, and had the clocks tested (they passed). Issue was assumed caused by the high pressure fuel pump. Mileage was 190k, original injectors.
