Lpg convertion

Featured Replies

Good day.

The lpg system is Master Direct by Cangas. The car is lpg converted for many months now, driving under many conditions (long trips, heavy traffic, bad weather, very warm weather etcetera). No issues for now. Performance is almost the same. No loss (at least not noticeable for most drivers).

Economy is a about (at least) 40% better than petrol.

It injects a bit of petrol (gas) for safety.

Am unsure why you keep making multiple postings about your LPG system? You just wanting a big pat on the back? 😂

That's a new system.

Read more carefully.

Thank you for that sterling advice, I have now learned my lesson, and indeed will read more carefully in future, how silly of me... It amazes me how I've made it this far in life by reading carelessly.

The system appears to work very well (for now).

Economy is at least 40%.

This car has more hp/torque than stock/factory.

Well done buddy, this is fabulous news! Getting economy of 40% is brilliant. Big pat on the back for keeping us informed of your wonderful LPG conversion... 🤣 :toot:

40% compared using petrol.

This thread would be useful to owners who would consider to convert their cars to lpg.

Well, there you go, got your answer 🤣

40% compared using petroil.

Do you mean that you get 40% more MPG or that it is 40% cheaper than petrol ?

40% cheaper than petrol, at least here.

In most places and countries the diffirence in price is big.

Do you get the same MPG for LPG as for petrol ?

I assumed that you would get less MPG running on LPG.

Mpg on lpg is a bit more than petrol. Some say it is about 10%. The difference between petrol and lpg price is big though.

Petrol has about twice the price of lpg.

You're a gluten for punishment LOL

There's no way you get more MPG running on LPG as it's less energy dense than petrol. However if you take in to account the price difference to petrol then you do travel further for the same cost.

My old V6 Mondeo achieved 28mpg on petrol on average and 22-24mpg on lpg. Less power on lpg too, especially when the tank was getting low. Had the car for 10 years and ran lpg for over 7 years.

LPG is not a thing anymore in the UK, the fill up points I used to used have all been removed now.

I didn't want to butt into the OP assumption that LPG gave better MPG, yet here I am! I owned a Mercedes C240 which was LPG, it also got a bit less MPG than petrol, though to be fair, when I had it, LPG was 50p/60p per liter so I wasn't bothered. Also, if I'm being honest, I never noticed any differential in power, and the transition between the 2 fuels was seamless. The garage I use to get LPG in a few years back still sells it, though I think it's now about 80p/liter.

I loved that car but sadly the Merc was the most unreliable vehicle I ever owned, nearly all 'electrical' gremlins, and it's near permanent mode of transport was on the back of a breakdown lorry LOL I still miss it as when it it worked, it was brilliant!

It was only a little down on power. Sometimes I would manually switch it to petrol if I needed it 😉. As you mention, switching was seamless.

Can't remember how much it was, think it got to around 78p p/l here (in 2012), dearer at petrol stations generally than it was with my account with Countrywide Farmers, it's their tanks that have all gone now.

Sorry, misunderstood in translation. Mpg is a bit less on lpg, indeed. Some say 10%. I wanted to say that consumption is more on lpg.

Yes power when using lpg (performance) is bit lower, but for most cases it is not noticeable for (common) drivers.

Exceptions are the so called liquid injection lpg systems which have the same power or a bit more than petrol.

I still don't know why LPG wasn't a bigger success here in the UK. Yes, to convert would cost about £1500 - £2000, but anyone doing an average annual mileage would claw that back. Even now though petrol is back to £1.40/liter from a high of almost £2/liter, LPG was and is so much cheaper!

If you're curious, here's a 'calculator' for you to see potential savings...

So there wasnt any issues with lpg just with the electrical parts?

Indeed, i wanted to say the consumption is more on lpg. Misunderstood translation.

Perhaps there were not many mechanics who were interested to take lessons in order to take certifications so that they would make the lpg system conversions/installations.

Here 0,74 euros/l lpg

1,76 euros/l 95 octane petrol.

Really not an issue - there were 3 x certified installers within a 40 mile radius with me...

Then either the owners didnt prefer it (perhaps better economical status than others, so they dont care about savings). Just assuming.

Here many prefer it since most people keep their cars either for a lifetime, or for at least ten years.

I dont know the statics but at least ten percent are lpg converted.
