Which one is the best buy ?

Featured Replies

Okay, been a while but here's where I am.   Decided on Fiesta Titanium and went to dealers last week and set up a potential deal.  A family member has decide to change cars after 9 months and has a Trend 1.0.  After considering my needs I have a potential deal on the table also for a Trend 1.1.

So which one, head says one thing another part of me says otherwise.

Brand new Titanium  1.0                100ps      no options    Chrome Blue            £  19,428

Brand new Trend       1.1                  75ps      no options    Any colour                £  17,424

9 month old  Trend   2,000 miles    1.0      100ps     16" alloys      Red               £  15,200

Titanium will likely be the most desirable now and in to the future. Trend is a little basic, and if 75ps is going to be lacking in power unless you just want to do local short journeys.

🤣🤣🤣 yes.

👍

and 75ps and 100ps still have the wet cambelt afaik so perhaps the answer is none of the above?

It’s not what you asked for but wouldn’t something like this be a better buy?

Obviously doesn’t take into account the reason you’re at a dealer, like the trade in, finance options etc.

I'd check very carefully that the car has all the equipment you require.

The Titanium in particular has lost "big ticket" items like standard alloys, auto climate, etc and the Mk 8.5 generally has been "cheese-pared" in ways many owners are still discovering.

Powerfold mirrors have been mentioned a lot, but also Sync 2.5 ilo Sync 3, one-shot window switches, dash centre speaker, sunglasses holder, console trinket tray, etc, etc.

Thanks. Really looking for brand new as I qualify for Privilege deals and in lucky position of not needing to finance a deal unless a 0% deal is an option. I generally do low miles locally.

Really looking for brand new ...

20 years ago I could understand 'buying new' as reliability was still an issue with used cars, however, these days used cars offer a fabulous way to get a much better car than you could afford new. As an experiment, just put your budget into AutoTrader and see what your money could potentially buy...

Ford are (or were, when I ordered mine) doing 0% on certain plans, including the 2 year Options cash plan. They were also offering additional  discount for taking it.

Another point of interest is Ford Money are actually offering some decent rates on savings at present:

Best finance was 1.9% which was about £450 interest on the balance. Prefer to pay outright, just about which car feels right.

Even at that you'd still be in front with the savings rates on offer.

I'm not that keen on borrowing money myself (legacy of my upbringing) but when they're effectively paying you to do it..........

I was thinking of that just never been sold on the whole options thing. I like to own my car outright unless a deal is to good to turn down.

£20k for a poverty spec Fiesta 'Titanium' doesn't sound like much of a Privilege to me...

I'm with Roger on this one, would be 'none of the above' for me as well.

I don't qualify so don't know much about the Privilege scheme but just looking at the prices already  mentioned and on here for example:

https://www.trustford.co.uk/cars/ford-privilege-scheme/

Some of the deals on new unreg Fiestas advertised on AutoTrader  seem as good, or better.

A lot of the deals are base spec and the cars they get often have other options on so price goes up on a lot of them.

Wow. Dealer just emailed an available Fiesta.  ST Line 100ps in race red with Sync 3 and nav.   £. 21,420. Does that trump everything else ?

That's the best option so far.

Though personally I don't like Race Red or sports suspension so still wouldn't take it myself.

Race Red is at least 5mph faster though!😀

But it's still got that wet belt...........

So it gives a quicker zero to boom time 🤣

But in fairness, mine was faultless over 5 years. So, if bought new and properly serviced, it should be ok for a good few years..

Gonna sort test drive for next week on that ST line.  I don't do many miles and always follow service schedules so belt should not be a concern.

Our ST-Line has been decent, lot of money though for one. I prefer the firmer ride, ours has Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s that didn’t suit the car so when they expired we got different ones and it’s lovely.

Hi M and all,

That sounds like a plan .... and I note what you said about preferring brand new, but can't resist pointing out that there are quite a lot of 125ps Titanium MHEVs between 18-19k on AutoTrader, 72-plate Ford Direct cars with minimal miles and usually with a number of option packs...🙊

Must admit I'd rather go for a 125 MHEV than a 100 myself, given the choice, and not just because of the cambelt issue - better performance and mpg and lower CO2 which could be important in the event of more mucking around with tax bands in future.

There are still quite a few new ones on there too, cheapest I've spotted so far are ST-Line for £22,655 and Titanium for £20,995, but Ford Direct cars can be a pretty good buy. I've had 2 cars that way and been satisfied overall, and they are often "fully loaded" as you mention.

Just don’t! Purchase a Honda or Toyota & never look back.Fiesta’s are not worth the stress of owning.Badly engineered engines. Japanese cars are pretty well bulletproof.
