Dashboard Trim Vibrations Brand New Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hello all. I have a 2023 Ford Fiesta Active that I bought from day dot and I am facing some really annoying vibrations. I'd love to hear your guys' recommendations, know-how and experiences if possible.

The vibrations sound like they're coming from the picture that I have attached and they seem to mute when I have my partner press around the dashboard in various places.

The vibrations happen around 80% of the time where more noticeable on rough/coarse roads and although I can turn up the tunes, just knowing its there really annoys me it being a brand new car. I've done about 3,000 miles in it since July but oddly the noises weren't apparent until around the 250 miles mark. Ever since then, they haven't stopped once.

I'd like to add that I opened the bonnet for the first time quite literally just before experiencing these noises for the first time. Could this be a cause or am I thinking too much into it? It's the only thing I have done different from the top of my head.

P.S The bonnet is closed and secured properly 😄

Thanks a lot!

Take it back, there's probably a loose or bonus fixing in there

As above, if you can't see anything obviously loose or broken, it should be repaired under manufacturers warranty.  Don't start taking things apart as that could void the warranty.

Having someone else drive the car around whilst being a passenger may help in finding the cause.

I found some slight noises can occur especially with ambient temperature changes. I spent a while with one thinking it was from between the edge of the dash and windscreen but turned out to be the triangular housing underneath the rear view mirror. Pushed it tight and all ok. Just a word of note, when I got mine new in late 2017 it had to go back and get the windscreen replaced due to a bad fit and leak with water working its way into the passenger footwell. Hope all is ok.

i had the same thing in my MK8 Fiesta, turned out it was something i left in the glove box that was causing the noise 😅

Knowing me I would've done the same but that was the first thing I checked as have done this in the past. Drove me nuts and didn't forgive myself for weeks after 🤣

I'll give that a shot and see how it goes when I next go for a drive. I'm fairly certain it is the dashboard but I'm willing to try anything at this point before having to send it in to Ford if I can help it! Haven't had any water leaks as of yet but will keep my eyes peeled just in case. Cheers!

Unfortunately there isn't anyone that I know of who can do this for me as it would be extremely helpful not only for this but other issues I may come across but I appreciate the response nonetheless! Cheers mate!

Yeah I agree. I just wanted to see if it was something I could do on my end like pushing in a slightly misaligned bit of plastic trim that's known for coming loose. I wouldn't take anything apart just in case but I think I'm going to have to take it in because now the passenger door is also rattling like there's something in the door bin 😆. Ugh cars, love 'em - hate 'em...

Yeah will most likely have to do this now as passenger door bin also rattling... ugh 😆. Do you know how long they would keep the car in for an issue such as this? Cheers mate, all the best!

Yes,I am sure they would have got the fit right by now. Mine was one of the first mk8s so teething troubles. Another thing I noticed that might be be worth looking at is the plastic trim under the bonnet that meets the windscreen. Mine was not flush so pushed it back tight although this was probably due to the windscreen replacement.

Welcome to the joys of owning a Fiesta 😂

Trim rattles, buzzing noises seem part of the course...too much hard plastic particularly around the dash area and reliance on plastic push-type fixings instead of good old screw fixings.

If your lucky it will occur when the dealer looks at it, in my case the annoying tapping/clicking noise coming from the rear of the cabin decided to disappear the day before it was booked in. Needless to say they couldn't fix something they couldn't replicate...so down to me to find and fix...unfortunately didn't stay quiet for too long and is still an on-going issue.

Temperature may make things worst as the plastic becomes more pliable.

I've started journeys with the car quiet as a mouse only for the rattles to come and go after driving for say 10 miles.

The build quality of the MK8.5 is definitely worst then the MK8 I had but even that suffered from dash noises...and always on and off making the source difficult to pin point.

Had one the other day, buzzing noise every time I took a left turn...turned out to be the passenger seat headrest not clicked fully in. Pushed the headrest fully down and noise disappeared.

Hopefully yours will be a simple fix.

I am picking up one of the last Fiestas on Monday.  I will report back on how the quality is but after a test drive today in the very vehicle I could not hear any shake, rattle or roll and all panel sets seemed a really good fit.  Going to have a look again after PDI on Saturday to avoid any last minute snags on Monday.

Perhaps I'm lucky but the build quality of my October 2022 Titanium is pretty good. No squeaks and rattles from trim nor suspension noises over bumps. It seems to be very solidly screwed together, though it could do with a bit more sound deadening. But then I did come from a top of the line Mondeo Titanium X with all mod cons to this little Fiesta so there's bound to be some quality differences - but not as much as I perhaps expected and the performance on the road is more than adequate. Apart from the limited luggage space I'm pleased I chose this car.

I'm getting a bit of a rattle from the passenger door. Not all the time though.  Just turn the music up a bit louder

When you think of all the nuts and bolts and different joints/joins it hard to believe any car will always be totally squeak and rattle free. But from brand new you do come to expect it and why not ?

I had a squeak from that area turned out to be a loose bolt on the battery retaining bracket. Tightened the bolt and the squeak was gone. Might be worth a look around the engine bay to see if anything could be responsible for the noise

Unfortunately, all the 2022-2023 "Facelift" Fiesta's do it. Mine is absolutely shocking for it, these facelift models are absolute crap quality which is disappointing. All my door panels vibrate, the A and B pillars, the glovebox and even the boot creaks like hell. I've been in a few facelifts and they all do it, the non-facelifts were really quiet and a lot better quality. I love the Fiesta but I wish I got the regular MK8 instead of the FL.

However these noises are the least of your worries, mine and many other facelifts (UK anyway) have a clunking/knocking sound from the front-right suspension, my car has been in the dealer multiple times for it and they still couldn't figure it out and even got Ford involved and they still couldn't figure it out, they tested 5 different fiesta facelifts and they all had the same noise. In the end I got mine back after they replaced a faulty driveshaft and shock absorber, and told me that right now it's a characteristic of the car and they'll look into it. The non-facelifts and ST's aren't affected as they have a different suspension setup to the regular facelifts. The Active/ST-Line/Titanium/etc all do it, which is what surprised me the most.

The sound is really bad as it sounds like something is going to come off and it will constantly make this noise over any uneven surface or bump, it's quite concerning for me to be honest. I did record a video of just me driving and it made the sound quite frequently, but cut down a lot. I put a little white marker on the bottom left of the video every time it did it.

Another video of it just over raised painted lines: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EkmtsYLIL3SK2se71A3UJKK-8NnRltx3/view?usp=drive_link

Picking a Trend up tomorrow, should have been Monday but had to put off until tomorrow. I drove the car last week on test and didn't notice any issues and all seemed well put together but I will get a fuller idea after a living with it a while. Another family member has the same car and after 3 weeks no knocks or sounds reported. Maybe it is related to the 1.0 powered cars and possible engine mounts. I believe a lot of ST Line owners on MK 8s reported this and knocking sounds from driver's front side with many reporting back after dealers checked and changed parts and finally settled on the line Characteristics Of The Model.

Its reassuring to know that Ford design their cars to click, tap, buzz, rattle and knock so we get to enjoy the unique Ford driving experience...🫤

Collected new Trend today and pleased to report all seems well built. Will report any issues for comparison.

I think some of these noises are a characteristic / poor design / effects of cost cutting. I’ve got a Mk8 TitaniumX that is near silent except for on road surfaces that have had a “grit and tar” dressing. On roads with a recent (past 12 months) “grit and tar” dressing the passenger side footwell / behind the dashboard has a really annoying rattle. Originally I thought it was my DiskLok in the passenger footwell, but sadly not.

hello, I have the same problem with the sound coming from the dashboard also from the passenger side. I haven't been able to work it out yet but the sound seems to be coming from the dash joint between the soft side and the plastic windshield side. the dashboard consists of two pieces (the soft part on the driver's side and the plastic part on the windshield), somewhere there when the two materials join, the sound inside is heard, probably the grip between the two pieces of the dashboard. currently I don't know of a solution to fix this problem. I noticed standing still with the engine running and hitting the board in the frontal area and the same sounds that could be heard while driving. Does anyone have a solution?

Was there ever an answer to this.  Mine started doing it about a month ago.  Same location. Driving me mad.
