I'm not sure if I have my cable with me today to see if I can get the same data from the desktop version of Forscan and see if both switch sensor outputs trigger when pressing the brake.

Thanks mate I appreciate it

If this isn't the cause, I'm going to try my luck with a new BCM as I refuse to be beaten by this lol

  • @StephenFord do feel free to jump in at anytime !! Perhaps you could recommend a good battery charger as the OP's must be quite low by now. A photo would be required of course 🤣

There's a newish BMW near me with door seal hanging off.  It is parked next to a Focus so must be crossing species now. 😮

@unofix will be along shortly to explain why your generic scanner found nothing, and why you need ForScan...

Not sure if I'm reading the diagram correct but it looks as though it does have 2 switches, although the other one is normally closed?

Is that wiring diagram specifically for your car?  The Mk2's had two brake pedal switches, but I seem to remember the Mk3's only had one.  It's probably quicker to look at your actual car than try to decipher the wiring diagram lol.

I would have said looking at that that it's one physical box with two switches inside.

Yeah definitely for my car, the photo on the website even shows it as having 2 switches (I think), although one is closed

Ah, I get it now.

Right, I've ordered a new BCM as I want to try and get this done before Xmas. Hopefully it is just the brake pedal switch but I can't check until I get home, and I think it's unlikely anyway.

So from my understanding I need to do the following:

  1. Plug forscan in, save the CCM data and the BCM asbuilt data only?
  2. Unplug the battery from the car, unplug the old BCM and plug in the new one
  3. Plug in the battery, plug forscan in, write the BCM asbuilt data and the CCM data

Then it should work? I definitely don't need to recode the keys?

Hi all

Plugged in the new BCM, rewrote the asbuilt and central configuration.

Just getting an error message om the dashboard saying Ford KeyFree No key detected and nothing is lighting up

Any ideas or do I need a locksmith

At least I'm not looking at the steering lock malfunction message anymore 😭😂

Sorry, I must have been wrong about the keyless module holding key codes on these.

Have you tried putting the keyfob in the emergency position so it uses the proximity chip instead?

Yeah there's a little thing that's supposed to scan the chip in the key but that's not worked.

Think the battery needs charging anyway so will get that done, although I am scared to close the door in case I can't get back in 😂

I'm not sure what the next step is then, sorry.

No problem you've been more than helpful

Been reading up on it and looks like anything mk3 or mk 3.5 focus you can't use PATS on forscan so need a locksmith

On a positive note the BCM is showing no DTCs but who knows if that's just because the key isn't recognised yet 🤷‍♂️

Hi all, one last update (probably):

Installed the new BCM, had somebody came to program the keys and................................................................................................................

....

....

Steering lock malfunction

I've now sold the car to somebody, can't stand the sight of the car anymore 😂 He has said that when he finds out what is wrong with it he will let me know, I will update you all if you're still interested!

Thanks for all the help everybody!

George.

One thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned since the earliest posts on this topic is the actual lock itself. It could simply be a fault with that and it's just a coincidence it appeared after the bump start.

Hope your buyer finds out what it was. I'm sure we'll all be interested.

I think I did mention it before, however there is no power going to the steering lock from the BCM, so the fault must lie somewhere before/in the BCM I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new owner appears on here themselves over the next few days.

There's not much 'before' the BCM.  I suppose the engine start button may have become confused by the bump start, going back to your idea about the engine thinking it's running.  But I thought the button was just a switch, with the actual 'memory' of on/off/acc being in the BCM.

Unless we're all looking at this the wrong way.  Maybe it's not an electric spike, but the physical force of a bump start jerk slightly dislodging an already weak wire or pin in a plug.

This sort of fault is incredibly frustrating!

Got PTSD when I saw these notifications!

Update- car was scrapped for parts as they couldn't fix it/was too expensive to fix. So we will never know 😞
