Are you 100% sure that fuse F68 is good ? Is it making a good contact in the fuse holder ?

  • @StephenFord do feel free to jump in at anytime !! Perhaps you could recommend a good battery charger as the OP's must be quite low by now. A photo would be required of course 🤣

There's a newish BMW near me with door seal hanging off.  It is parked next to a Focus so must be crossing species now. 😮

@unofix will be along shortly to explain why your generic scanner found nothing, and why you need ForScan...

Yeah, I measured both ends of the fuse and both showed the same voltage. Even tried swapping with another fuse.

a steering lock emulator that you plug in, would this work?

It would only work if the fault is the actual steering column lock. It would not work if the fault is within the BCM.

Yes if you want to be "posh" just remember this is not a permanent fix, it is only going to be used for test purposes. Normally I just jam the test wire in the side of the fuse holder, but there is nothing stopping you using a break out fuse.

If you remove the fuse from the fuse holder and test the pins in the holder, only one should have 12 Volts the other should be dead.

I don't really own any spare wire so I'll pick one of these up from Halfords tomorrow and test.

Got it, thanks for the help/advice. Will report back tomorrow.

In order to do that you will need to remove the plastic back shell of the plug and then push the temporary wire in the back of C8-2

Is this going to be a tricky job do you think?

Ok, done this. Now getting power to the steering lock column, have tested with the emulator. Emulator is just flashing green and red, still getting the same error codes as before on forscan.

I have now tried going into the full version of forscan and setting the CCM to "no vehicle steering lock". This has also done nothing, getting the exact same error codes.

I do not know what else I can do.

looks like you have a fault with the BCM not the steering lock.

You could try downloading the "AsBuilt" file (use FORScan) for the BCM and reload it. That should correct any software glitches. If that doesn't work then I think you are probably looking at a new BCM.

Is there a guide on how to do this? Thanks

Quite possibly on the FORScan forum (paid/licensed members only).

Just open up FORScan and go to the Service Procedures (spanner) if I remember correctly. Your laptop will need connected to the car AND be in range of a good WiFi signal. At the very bottom of the page you will see a small tab "AB" (AsBuilt) if you click on that it will download the asbuilt file for your car from the Ford servers.

Will try this in a bit...

No luck with this! Admitting defeat now.

Is it worth me checking C3-5 pin on the BCM? @unofix

That's the canbus data line, you won't be able to test it.

Got it.

At least I've learnt a lot about wiring drawings lol

You can buy a replacement BCM on eBay for £30-£50.  Need to make sure the part number matches yours but other than that you can just copy your original one using Forscan.

So I don't need somebody to come and code it for me, I could definitely do it myself? What about programming the keys etc

Do you think the BCM was damaged when the vehicle was bump started, is this something that happens?

Probably.  Both jump starting and bump starting can cause a spike through the electrical system which can damage sensitive electronics.

I'm not 100% sure on your model.  Hopefully someone else can confirm.

It doesn't need coding though, it's literally just coping the 'options' from your car across to the new one.

I think keyless keys are managed by the KVM, and the immobiliser managed by the PCM & cluster, I don't think the BCM is part of that system on these.

For the sake of £50 though, it seems like it's worth a try.  Worst comes to worst you can just refit your current BCM and then re-sell the replacement to recoup the money.

Just been looking, this seems like a pretty decent tutorial?

May as well give it a go... wish me luck lol

Just to confirm then, if I did somehow f*** it up and the keys didn't work with the new BCM I could just plug in the old one and it would be ok?

Well, it can't be driven now, so I don't see how it can get any worse!  Honest answer is still as above, I'm not 100% sure on your model.  My understanding is that the 'old' BCM would still contain all of the relevant info, so as long as you haven't changed anything in other modules such as the KVM then the old BCM should still work exactly as it does now when refitted.

Are you using the laptop version of Forscan or a mobile version?  I've heard that the mobile one can't be used for programming.
