Disabling the guide lines on rear camera

Featured Replies

Hi.

I have a Ford Fiesta 2014 with a Sony Head Unit. I replaced it with an Android one.

I've done that before with another Android Unit. Before installing the Unit, I disabled the guide lines on the rear camera and then installed the new head unit. It all worked fine, and there was no guide on the video feed.

I replaced the unit with the new one and followed the same process. However, after installing the new head unit, the guide came back on! I repeated the procedure with the original head unit, and I got the same result.

One of the connectors of the previous head unit is left unconnected. It was the same for the other Android head unit. So, I think it does not have anything to do with the camera.

Does anybody have any data on the camera wiring of the Ford Fiesta? Or how can the lines be disabled on the video feed? The pinout I can find does not show anything about a signal for disabling/enabling the guide.

If you can put up with that massive screen, I’m sure you can put up with a few lines on it that only appear when you reverse.

If you look in the settings of the android unit there will be an option to disable them, I really wouldn't recommend modifying the factory wiring pinout as this can cause numerous issues not to mention if you ever did sell the car it would be a headache for the next owner.

The camera feed on a Mk7.5 don't include guidelines, as to the best of my knowledge, the camera module is not connected to the CAN bus to combine the steering wheel position with the video feed in a unified output, instead the FCDIM is responsible for overlaying steering wheel position & reversing sensors.

As @Neb_engineer said, I recommend searching through the settings of the Android unit (I may be able to help if you post part numbers of head unit/aftermarket loom), or contacting their manufacturer.

If you do have an OEM reversing camera showing on an aftermarket head unit, I would be very interested in what's necessary to get this working!

Generally if it's a factory camera, the headunit will automatically pic it up from canbus like it does for parking sensors

Mine does.

CAN can't operate at a high enough frequency to push video, hence the use of separate wires for LVDS/GMSL.

By "camera feed" I mean the video transmitted from the reversing camera to the FCDIM, visually guidelines will appear because the FCDIM is overlaying them before pushing the video to the LCD screen. I haven't confirmed this yet as I haven't done a full teardown of the reversing camera in my car, but if you have something that disproves this theory & helps me with my understanding of the reversing camera, please let me know!

My reversing camera shows guide lines and these move in relation to the movement of the steering wheel.

So does mine

Love the guidelines on mine

+1. According to my Mrs I'm rubbish at parking and need all the help I can get!

It's an unusual topic though, most people are looking for ways to add the guidelines after fitting an aftermarket camera.

For the OEM camera feed, I used the last two pins of the connector (see picture) of the connector to the car's display. I found them by trial and error. The green wire and the one in brownish cover (it's just a bad shield by foil as I didn't have proper wires by then) are the video feed of the OEM camera. You might need to swap them as some of these head units use the ground as video feed!

The guide itself does not bother me, but the radar does. It covers most of the image and I'm having a problem in low light to see the curb.

I bought the head unit from here:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006163712628.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.32861802CzJYJH

I got the one with 8GB RAM, WiFi and 4G (S-10E).

It came with two sets of cables. One is for my car and the other is for different builds.

I saw in a couple of after-market cameras there is a wire that you cut to disable the guides. I was hoping it would be the same and by just connecting a signal to ground or +12v the radar could go away.

This is an example of what I see. If I could disable the radar tiles, it would be more clear where I'm going.

Also, the head unit guide lines are at the same place as the camera guide. So, in case both are disabled, I still can use the head unit guide.
