Think your post is the wrong place, this is a car forum not a chip shop 🤣

Hi Lee,

I had to look up what HVO fuel is ... is it compatible with the 1.5tdci? I tried a quick Google but couldn't find anything conclusive. I haven't yet had the sense to check the handbook 🙄but will do...

Very understandable. I believe that there are only 3 or 4 filling stations in the whole of the UK. Price per litre is around £1.65 if you buy 5000 litres 🤣 otherwise it's about £3.00 per litre if you just want to fill your average car.

I would ask Ford powertrain engineering directly, NOT open Forums.

My recommendation would be NO

I’ve emailed Ford but they directed me to my local dealer and there wasn’t much joy there either ,HVO is far better than bio diesel most manufacturers approve it for their engines now.Ive found  a press release from Ford approving it for the 2ltr eco blue engine but that’s all I can find

Given the price unless buying in bulk why would you want to use it? It seems to be mostly aimed at fleet operators who are looking to "greenwash" their image. Unless you work for such an operator who lets staff fill up?

Can get it for free Eric

Thanks Tom - that's roughly what vaguely swam back into memory...after I'd posted my comment 🙄

I don't think HVO fuel meets EN590 standards so am guessing that pretty much answers it - which is shame in a way but then I can't get it for free 😅

As above I don't doubt it's a No, but that said I'd be interested in what a powertrain engineer had to say - but is there any way to contact them direct...?

I doubt any of the Ford engineers would commit to saying it's fine due to the legal implications of doing so.  Though in fairness, the car is out of warranty now anyway so it's not their problem if you break it.

As it's free, you could always try a bit and see how the engine runs.  I'd probably start with a 25% mix, then 50% mix, etc rather than just sticking a tankful straight in.

Worst case scenario you'd need a new HP pump and/or injectors at some point in the future.  I might also be concerned with how it'll affect the DPF.

I did have a bit of experience with WVO (not a great one!) but haven't had any experience with HVO.

PS - obviously don't know your specific arrangements, but my brother in law worked as an HGV driver some years back, and the employer let the staff help themselves from the pumps for their private use. They fell foul of HMRC under BIK.

I'm not familiar with the 1.7 Isuzu engine.  Does it use Piezo injectors and a DPF?

Unfortunately we don't have access to parts catalogues later than ~2016 so I can't double check if the commercial 1.5 EcoBlue uses exactly the same setup as the private cars.

Sorry I ment the courier 1.5 Duratorq ,that’s the same engine as the fiesta

1.5 Duratorq is the old 8 valve engine.  1.5 EcoBlue is the newer 16 valve engine.  (Although it is possible that website has got it's branding wrong)

However, the Courier is still a commercial vehicle, they're aren't necessarily built to the same specs as private cars as emissions requirements are different.

As mentioned before, I wouldn't recommend it, but it WILL run.

Worst case it will destroy the HP pump and the injectors. More so the pump.

BUT, if the fuel is free the cost of a new pump and injectors every 20,000 miles or so may outweigh the cost of buying fuel, so if you're determined to try, try it.

But you have been warned

May be run 50/50, as advised?

Maybe run every fourth tankful on regular diesel with additives in?

Or maybe even put some 2 stroke oil in?

Thanks for your thoughts guys, there’s just a lack of information about HVO probably because it’s relatively unavailable over here but it will come,I’m sure most of Scandinavia use it.And whilst scouring the web I see the Royal Mail is one company that is using HVO in its vehicles from July last year.Il probably end up trying a 50/50 mix like Dave T70 suggested

Hi Lee, if you do go ahead, am hoping you'll pop back here sometimes to let us know how it goes - would be interested to hear if you're willing.

Is yours the 85 or 120ps version btw?

Hi Lee,

That's great - thanks for returning with an update.

Has it made any difference to mpg figures btw?
