Fiesta SYNC 3

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a new Fiesta Active.  It has not come with SYNC 3 Sat Nav. Does anyone know how to update SYNC 2.5 to 3 ?  There must be a simple update that can be done, I am prepared to pay for it.  I do not wish to have to use my mobile phone to get Sat Nav on the screen.  My previous Fiesta had SYNC 3.  I am in dispute with the Ford Dealership over this.  Waiting for comments from Ford Motor Co.

Is it surely the 3? From 3 it can be 3.4.

Hi Bol, thanks for your reply. It is SYNC 3 that I expected to find on my new Fiesta Active as it states this on the on-line Ford Fiesta catalogue.  My old Fiesta Trend had the SYNC 3 and EcoBoost as extras.  I agreed to this deal with the new Active as it stated that it had SYNC 3 as extra over the Trend.  The car I have received does not have SYNC 3.  I have a 24 plate car sitting on my drive with 145 miles on the clock as I am not using it pending discussions and outcomes.  Ford cars are standardised and sometimes it is only a computer adjustment to change things.  The dealer tells me they cannot do anything about it.  There must be some simple adjustment, even if it's a new motherboard which I am prepared to pay for.  I just want to know if anyone knows how to do this change.

I think if it is sync 2 then it cant be upgraded to sync 3. Because it is a lot different system. For example on sync 2 the system is updated by cards not usb like sync 3.

Perhaps someone who knows more could advise you.

Baz52, The 2023 Fiesta price list (the only one available on the official Ford web page), clearly states that all Fiesta models including the ST3 are factory fitted with Sync 2.5, Sync 3 and Sync 3 (with navigation) are optional extras. If the car you purchased was from dealer stock then unfortunately, it will be fitted with Sync 2.5, unless of course the dealer asked for the basic Sync 3 to be fitted when he ordered it.

Build stopped last July so any cars purchased now will be standard spec unless a dealer had speculatively ordered one with the Sync 3 option for stock.

As Danny says, the last price list clearly shows Sync 2.5 was standard. Sync 3 was £400 extra (or £825 with B&O) taken as an option on a basic Active.

If the car was sold to you as having Sync 3 and doesn't, then you have cause to claim misrepresentation by the dealer and could reject the vehicle or negotiate an adjustment. There were only about 25 unsold Fiestas of any version on AutoTrader last time I looked, so the chances of finding one/doing a swap at this stage would be pretty slim.

There have been previous threads on upgrading Sync 2 to 3 :

but don't know whether that can be done on the later versions. There are kits advertised on the web but they seem to be for US models.

I can't imagine Ford or the dealer wanting to be involved in a non-standard mod in any event.

Thanks to Bol, Danny 5 and Eric Bloodaxe for your comments. I shall have to keep trying to find a kit to convert from Sync 2.5 to Sync 3.  The catalogue I looked at on-line said the Active had Sync 3, which is why I took the deal. If I don't get any luck with Ford or the Dealership then I will look to buy a separate in-car Sat Nav system as I don't fancy running my phone, hanging loose in the car, all the time.  Would also have to update my GB allowance so a new phone contract.  There is GPS in the car as some changes are done on-line, the speed limit sign changes on the screen as you drive, and if you use the telematics then that gives all your driving and car data to Ford.

If anyone has any recommendations on separate Sat Nav systems that I can permanently fit into the car please let me know.  Or if anyone knows of any clever mechanic who can update my Sync 2.5 to Sync 3 then let me know and I will pay him well to do the job.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the Sync 3 Sat Nav on my 2020 Fiesta.  My 2015 Mondeo has a slightly more complicated Sat Nav set-up, but at least it's permanently in the car and is usable.

Thanks - Baz52

A lot were fitted with Sync 2.5, around this time, due to the chip shortage

To convert to Sync 3, if you are positive you have GPS, will mean you have to change the screen to a Sync3 one

Or just plug your phone in, with a decent lead and use CarPlay or AA, it won't be just "hanging there" you can sit in in the front of the console, there is also a USB port there.

Waze or Google maps are 1000 times better than Ford's Sat Nav system anyway

You can also get some fairly decent wireless CarPlay/AA adaptors online now, for about £20-30, then you haven't got to do anything

The catalogues rarely align with the price list/ordering guides, which change frequently. Ford, like all manufacturers, include the caveat about reserving the right to change specifications at any time and emphasising that requirements should be confirmed with the dealer at time of ordering. So I doubt you'd get anywhere with Ford.

With production having ended, the car must have existed at the time of your transaction so the dealer should have been able to verify the spec. It really comes down to whether the dealer stated it had Sync 3, or if you assumed it did, based on the brochure.
