Mk2 - Recommended Oil for 1.8 FFV Engine (QQDB / Q7DA)

Featured Replies

Hi can any recommend what oil to use in this Engine please?

1.8 FFV Engine (QQDB / Q7DA)

Mannol Oil Checker using my reg brings up these 2 options:

ENERGY ULTRA JP 5W-20 MN7906

or

ENERGY FORMULA FR 5W-30 A5/B5 MN7707

Thank you

Interesting question...

The 2008 manual says 5w30 for all Mk2.5 Focus except RS.  (No mention of flexfuel)

Ford specification - WSS-M2C913-C

However the 2007 manual (Mk2 pre-facelift) says -

Vehicles with a Flexfuel engine

Note: The oil and oil filter must be changed every 10 000 km (6 000 miles) or once a year, whichever occurs first. Use Ford/Motorcraft Formula-S SAE 5W-40 synthetic engine oil. Alternative engine oils with viscosity SAE 5W-40 meeting the requirements of specification ACEA A3/B3 may also be used.

I'd probably stick with the 5w30.  It's definitely not 5w20 anyway.

Thanks @TomsFocus, so there appears to be some conflicting information in the manuals pre and post facelift?

Strange it has info for Flexfuel in the earlier manual but not the later (post-facelift) one?

So:

5W-30 to Ford specification - WSS-M2C913-C

OR

5W-40 Ford/Motorcraft Formula-S SAE 5W-40 synthetic engine oil -ACEA A3/B3

Was planning on going for the top one (5W-30) and use MANNOL 7707.

The facelift manual doesn't have oil change info at all.  Presumably to force people to the dealerships for servicing.

To add to the confusion, I've just seen this in the facelift manual...which seems to be prohibiting 5w40 oil for flexfuel (E85) models.

Topping up the oil: If you are unable to find an oil that meets the specification defined by WSS-M2C913-C, you must use SAE 5W-30 (preferred), SAE 5W-40 (except vehicles with E85 fuel) or SAE 10W-40 that meets the specification defined by either ACEA A5/B5 (preferred) or ACEA A3/B3. Using these oils can result in longer engine cranking periods, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels.

Thanks @TomsFocus I shall have a think....

Going to just get the Mannol 7707 (5 litres for £17 with free P&P)

ENERGY FORMULA FR 5W-30 A5/B5 MN7707

The information in the user manuals is outdated.

Since the introduction of the ECOboost engines in 2011 and the introduction of the 5W20 WSS-M2C948-B engine oil Ford changed the oil requirements of many engine types.

The most recent service information of the Focus MK2/MK2.5  1.8/2.0 Duratec (including the FFV)  engines prescribes the following oil specifications:

OilspecificationsDuratecHE.thumb.jpg.6345538997cd764183fc777677958a5a.jpg

The old 5W30 WSS-M2C913-C or 5W30 WSS-M2C913-D oil specifications are no longer prescribed or even considered to be an alternative for this engine type.
