I'm not sure on this type of sensor.  I would expect power, earth, and two output wires but hopefully someone else can confirm.   That can happen if you unplug the MAF sensor or disconnect

With older versions of FORScan and on Fords built before 2013 it would probably be OK. However with the lastest versions of the software and with newer cars the old style ELM327 leads can't be relied upon to work correctly.

I think its a wireing issue took battery out and had a good look around the bay checked all earths and they seem to be ok but it wack in and it started for about 60secs enough time to clear the trouble codes and run the scan again no codes showed for a split second then it just conked out and same again all dtc reappeared and wont start convinced now its something shorting out

after nightmares last night about this shitfest lol first thing ill check is the gearbox earth as all DTC's point to gearbox circuits, failing that ill try the pcm and starter relay, i cant see it being the starter as the car intermittently runs for a few secs and then cuts out, ill update if i find anything

Another member had an issue with one earlier this week on an S-Max, same fault code as yours, part very similar if not identical.  Still waiting to hear whether it's a fault with the wiring or PCM rather than the sensor itself on that car.  Before that, I hadn't seen any issues with them on here.

ok im taking it that the connectinon to it should have an earth ? when i try all 4 wires i get nothing, that shouldnt be right ?

That can happen if you unplug the MAF sensor or disconnect the battery.  It should sort itself out over a day or two.

Things are often not that simple. Many sensors are supplied a constant 12V positive, and the negative is switched.

Test the wiring again with the ignition 'on' and have your multimeter set to volts dc. Connect the positive lead of your meter to the battery positive and then use the negative lead to check the wiring to the sensor.

will give that a go in a bit i had to walk away from it or i was going to pour a gallon of juice over it and light a match

update on above, i bit the bullet last night and ordered the part, have to laugh €207+vat for it from a main dealer over here ford uk it worked out at €58 posted. it was dispatched this afternoon so hopefully have it tomorrow afternoon and ill report back, dose anyone know if that part needs programming or to be calibrated ??

Should just be plug and play I think.

You are experiencing very similar codes to me (although I only get them under certain circumstances - warm engine, under acceleration or load i.e hill)

A few people pointed me towards a ground fault, however I have yet to identify a source. I have tried changing the PCM to a new one and that has not solved the problem.

I cannot monitor the MLPS readings through the oscilloscope on FORScan, however I could monitor some of the other sensors which are intermittently flagging up for me (IAT, CACT, MAP, MAF), and they are spiking down to 0v when I put my foot down which seems to prompt the errors. My current working theory is that they share a common ground which is playing up or there is some corrosion or something which affects a wire common to all of those sensors.

I have taken the sensor you have put a photograph of (the MLPS) off (it's just the one bolt), and it's an induction sensor which has a plastic face sitting against the gearbox. I don't think it uses the gearbox ground for anything as there is no metallic contact with the box.

My next attempt will be to replace the engine wiring harness. Will be very interested to find out what solves your issues. What have you ordered to try? The MLPS (gear lever position sensor)?

yes ordered MLPS it can be monitored in forscan it shows different voltage for each gear selected. i also had the limp mode issue and it turned out to be a loose jubilee clip at the throttle body and loosing boost would send the car into limp mode, i could flick the engine off and back on while still in gear and  fault would dispensary go to floor it again same issue, but i brought the revs up slowly it wouldnt be a problem
