Just started the routine for this year as my renewal is due 1 March.

Just got a promising first quote from LV who came second last year. Actually a few pounds less than they quoted last time (same car/drivers/cover) so I'll see if my existing renewal matches or betters that. If not, good to know I have a reasonable alternative.

Hi.

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you wish.

Regards,

Dan.

Eric, please try Dan @ flux. I'd be so interested in anyone that has managed to achieve a competitive quote from that company, have tried a couple of times myself, but fear they got me mixed up with a 17 yea rld wanting to insure a Porsche 911 LOL

What a coincidence! It's always nice when someone thinks you're much younger though. No, I can't recall anyone posting they had a competitive quote either, though it seems folk have given up on here.

I've just renewed mine.

Last years provider wanted a 25% increase in my premium for no logical reason and after I gave them a second chance they still wanted 12.5% more so I have gone with a slightly better policy with another provider for slightly less than last years premium.

I did have a silly online argument with them because I changed address during the year, informed them and they changed my policy address but the renewal still said my car was parked at my old address. When I pointed this out they wanted to charge me nearly £30 to change it so I had to tell them that my car will be parked at my old address until the end of the month when the policy expires🤥

Hi peeps, mine was renewed in Dec, i paid £194 fully comp with protected NCB and commuting cover. Im about to turn 68 in April and ive been with my current insurer AVIVA ZERO for the last 3 years. In that time it has risen from around £160, so although it has gone up its not been worth changing as other quotes were around the same or more.

My insurance is up for renewal next week so I've been doing the rounds as Swiftcover want to up my premium from £170 to £253, even though premiums have allegedly fallen, however none of the potential replacements will provide me with cover to drive other vehicles (my daughters' cars occasionally) as I work part-time delivering car parts !! I've never had a problem for the last 6 years that I've been doing this, so why now ?? Adrian Flux have just come in at £443 so I won't be using them either.

Anyone got any recommendations ??

Would adding your name to your daughters policy be a better idea?.

I always thought that driving other cars on your policy only gave you Third Party cover.

You should be aware that if you're unemployed, many companies scrap the 3rd party cover for other cars - yes, it's a scam but insurance companies often follow any route to scam you...

I look after a few neighbour's cars as well so need cover on my policy but thanks for the suggestion....and yes, it does only provide third party cover but that's all I need 👍

I retired from my full time job 7 years ago but just work part-time now 😉

I've got bored trying to find a cheaper quote so have reluctantly bit the bullet and renewed with Swiftcover...thanks for your input guys 👍

Hi.

Sorry we were unable to offer you a competitive insurance.

Regards,

Dan.

Just had my renewal through. Last year was £270. This year is only £180!

Has anyone else's dropped by 30% this year? Currently thinking it must be an error as nothing has changed regarding the car or my circumstances. Only difference is this year the car has tax and MOT, last year it was SORN. Wouldn't really make sense to charge more for a SORN'd car though. (If that price is correct, it will be the first year I've ever paid less for insurance than tax!)

Maybe they think that people who SORN cars are more likely to have a full loss or fire claim, just a guess on my part.

Just had the renewal through for the other car. Same location, same driver, even the same make and model. 20% increase from last year! They really must just pluck numbers out of a hat. 😄

I just renewed my insurance which expires on 5th March. My old insurers wanted £187, down from £194 last year. After using the online search comparison sites I found a good cover for £152. 🙂

I think they must all use a similar hat. I had an unexplained 30% drop on both our cars a couple of years back, but wasn't complaining. (Perhaps they now see us as more mature and safer?😀)

More normal looking renewals this time of under 10% but after a trawl of the market can't do better so stuck with it.

I keep reading that premiums start increasing more steeply after a "certain age" (don't know what) but one of my mates has hit 80 and still hasn't had anything abnormal, nor has his older brother who is pushing 90.

Interestingly, I've just had an automatic email come through from a comparison site, presumably using last years details, and can get the second car insured for the same price as last year using that without any additional effort from my end. Seems bizarre the current insurer would choose to lose a customer when others companies are literally throwing cheaper prices at me! 🧐

I had considered SORN'ing that one again and just leaving it uninsured. But for the sake of £200 (and just £35 tax) it doesn't seem worth the hassle. 'If' I can move to a more accessible property, having the cars immediately roadworthy would take some of the stress out of moving.

I noticed that the different comparison sites can give different quotes from the same insurers. The one I finally settled for was between £5 and £10 more expensive from the same insurer on the other comparison sites. 😕

That's because comparison sites are businesses themselves, they aren't simply comparing prices. They negotiate the prices with the insurance companies and also add their commission on top.

Competitive insurance companies get more trade through comparison sites, so they can afford to offer them lower prices than individuals going direct.

The general advice from Martin Lewis nowadays is to check 2 or 3 different comparison sites to get the best prices. But personally I can't be a*sed with the hassle, at least not for just £5-£10.

Just been through this nightmare of an insurance claim, I'm 79 (80 this coming April), on 2nd Dec last year a guy pulled out in front of me, said he just didn't see me, it was daylight and a very wet road as we just had a cloud burst, upshot was they wrote my 2010 C-Max off and i accepted the payment offer, kept my no-claims, i was with Swift (AXA) and the other guy Tesco who admitted liability, luckily my son helped a lot with the back and forth correspondence, the whole thing took over a month to sort out, i now have a lovely 2016 Grand C-Max 2lt auto, and insurance with AA fully comp and their breakdown cover (silver) for around £700, 2 pictures taken at the accident scene are my black C-Max, the other guys blue Masda and my new Grand C-Max, Dont know why they rave about Adrian Flux, always found them very expensive especially when i had a Toyota Hillux Surf some years ago

I think that's mostly some chap called "Dan"!

Just been doing an exercise with an in-law. Late 60s, well over 40 years clean licence, van driver until retiring a few years back, but not actually owned a car for almost 20 years.

Using a Honda Jazz as an example, did various comparison sites for fully comp, social use only, and got quotes ranging from just under £500 to 3 times that!

Surely it can't be the same Dan after all these years? Perhaps they hire new people called Dan every so often?
