Is this rare Focus Mk3 good price to buy?

Featured Replies

Acrossing this Focus was up for sale shy of £3k with 1.6 ecoboost as same engine off Fiesta ST but detuned verison.
It's Titanium X but top speced out... even Ink Blue finished! I checked its clean titles.
Top spec I mean... sunroof, heated seat, eletrical heating system, auto headlight, xenon headlight w/ washer, full kitted parking sensor, and etc...

Surely, it's rarer because you won't find commonly top specced that production at begin of year as they usually fewest optionals fitted till later end of year early Mk3 where is optionals begin more used fitted. Also I couldn't see Ink Blue is common?! I seen sliver, white and black also sometime Red is common where I live.

Anyway, I going look this car, hopefully at weekend, so anything I need looked out? It's had cambelt done so I don't need worried about it.
Only I know is, water inside boot due poor design seals of rear vent.

Check rear brake pads.

Apart from the sunroof I'm sure that's all standard TITX spec

Looking at that Focus it doesn't shout out ''I'm extra special'' 🙈 In fact I wouldn't look twice at it 🙉 Ford definitely lost the plot when they stopped making their cars look lovely and stand out of the rest of the crap 🙊

I think this is partly a generational thing.  To those of us 'in the know', there are some easy external visual identifiers to show that this is the top spec model.  17" multi-spoke alloys and xenon projector headlights are a dead giveaway.  This is also meant to be the luxury model, it's not meant to stand out like the poser-spec Zetec S!  This one is all about understated comfort and convenience.  Zetec S is just about turning heads.

My comment was just based on how far up the handbrake was pulled.

Yes.

No.  They are two completely different cars.  Focus comes in both luxury and sports trims, as does the Fiesta.

That looks alright for the Z-shaped lever tbh.  Much better than the horrible stubby thing fitted to pov spec Mk3s, brought over from Mk2!  This was mine at 40k/6 years.

Comparing it to a sports type was never my intention here! Wished Ford would do that bit better, I'm old fashioned here but always loved wood in luxury cars, most likely old fashioned these days but i'm sure the old timer still miss wood in the cars, on the focus the lower black areas on that could have been colour coded for starters and there's no chrome strip on it's rear and nothing on the front showing it's very different to the norm'.....maybe even a choice of window tint...bronze or green or blue, depending on the colour of the car.

Ford did fit fake plastic wood trim to Ghia models in the early 2000's, and it was considered so dated by mid 00's that they dropped the Ghia name and the fake wood around 2008 to attract a younger audience.  That's when the Titanium trim was released with dark grey carbon effect dash.  The standard trims just had a flat silver dash.

I think Titanium was introduced with the Mk 2 and both trims ran in parallel for a while. My brother in law bought one of the last new Mk 1s in very early 2005. I went with him to collect it and while there I blagged a test drive in a new Mk 2 which was a Titanium.

I recall the sales guy struggling to explain why you would have one or the other, saying that the Titanium had more of a "technical ambience" compared to the "traditional luxury" of the Ghia.😀

I think as you say,the Ghia was finally dropped with the facelift in 2008.

Ah, now that is interesting.  I have a late pre-facelift brochure showing both together but wrongly believed Titanium was only tagged on to the end of the PFL run around 2007, didn't realise it went back to 2005.

Both Fiesta & Mondeo got Titanium in 2008 I believe.  (With some on a late '57 plate).

I remember my brother in laws MK6 Escort Ghia and the fake wood, first glance it looked ok until you tapped it and it sounded like a plaggy cheap wheel trim 😦 Was a lovely car though, Also read ages back when Ford was dropping the Ghia name & badge, was taken back by that choice, personally that emblem had a meaning... the best from Ford and had been that way for decades, a bit like what CD was for a Vauxhall, saying that wonder if Vauxhall still uses CD for it's top of the range cars!

You're straining my creaking memory here. I think that's right for the Mk 7 Fiesta, but the Mk 4 Mondy did come as a Ghia for a while at least.

Some "wood" trim on display in the interior as well!😀

I was more an SRi person back in the day, but remember CD as the "posh" version. It disappeared a good while back, I think it's GS or Ultimate these days, but I lost interest when they became rehashed Peugeots (as opposed to rebadged Opels!😀).

...Drew Pritchard (Host of Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars if someone didn't know that guy), would have done making to turned fake wood to real wood lol.

Yes, that's right.  I just meant Titanium release date was 2008 for Mondeo, so it seems odd that Focus had it 3 years earlier.

I think Mk4 Mondeo kept the Ghia trim until facelift in 2010.  But they also had a Ghia X which is the one with wood effect trim iirc.  Though it did make sense to hold on to the Ghia name with the Mondeo, when those weren't really aimed at younger drivers anyway.  Of course, the younger drivers that Titanium was aimed towards in the 2000's will now be approaching 50, so would be interesting to see whether they still preferred that look now or whether they'd prefer a return to wood...whether it's generational or age related.  Personally I've never been a fan of the wood effect trim.

Did CD stand for something or was that another design house?

I had a '99 Vectra CDX very briefly, dropped all it's coolant the day I bought it so returned the same day!

Don't remember any CD/CDX in the Vectra C when I bought one of those, a 2006 facelift model.  Mine was the Design trim.  The one above it was Elite.  Seem to remember that's when they dropped the e from 'Exclusiv' to make the midrange spec seem more edgy, and base spec was called 'Life' afaik.

Unsure what the C stands for but the D meant Diplomat......Maybe it was 'Crap' Diplomat 😁

Our old next door neighbour would only buy posh CD badged Vauxhalls, some grand looking ones too, poshest to me was his big blue Senator he had.

Blimey loving that dash & steering wheel in that Mondeo.....Well nice.

Has it got

  • BLIS
  • satnav
  • keyless entry?

Can't see them on the TitX 'standard list' so if it has got them, yes, they would be 'extras'.

Someone turned up at our caravan park last year with an immaculate one, but in gold - very smart but seemed a lot smaller than I remembered. We used to get all sorts of demo cars at work and I recall doing a long business trip in a Senator. I thought it was a very nice car for its time.
