  • Agreed, only option there is the sunroof.  And with Mk3s already being full of rain leaks, I wouldn't want one with a sunroof myself!

  • Fair enough.  I do still think it's a generational thing though.  Personally I couldn't tell what some of the 'premium' features are on brand new cars today, or those from pre-1980, but Mk2 & Mk3

The 150 HP versions of the 1.6 ECOboost can easily be upgraded to 182 HP using the original software.

My parents own a 2012 150 HP version from new and apart from some minor issues is has been trouble free. I initially upgraded it to the original 182 HP software and since a couple of years it is running the Mountune MP200 software/hardware (which was an official Ford approved upgrade back in the days).

The 1.6 ECOboost was developed under time pressure because Ford waited too long with developing downsize engines. It is basically a turbocharged, direct injected version of the old 1.6 TI-VCT engine and was developed to replace the outdated 2.0 Duratec HE engine. It was basically released too early and the 1.6 ECOboost was further developed during production. History showed that the early examples suffered from quite some problems.

The 1.6 ECOboost has only be used for quite a short production period. It was introduced in 2011 and was superseded at the end of 2014 by the 4-cylinder 1.5 ECOboost in most Ford models. From that moment it was only used on the Fiesta MK7.5 ST (which never received the 4-cylinder 1.5 ECOboost).

During production Ford redesigned and improved many parts of the 1.6 ECOboost. At some point even the design of both the bottom end and cylinder head were changed. Most of the redesigns consisted of both hardware and software changes. Because of this there were basically several (different) versions of the 1.6 ECOboost on which both hardware and software are not interchangeable.

The downside of this is that quite some engine parts of the earlier 1.6 ECOboost design are no longer available while parts of the later 1.6 ECOboost design are not compatible. This can result in expensive repairs

112 parameters? What that? How I find them, apologies I never heard it lol

112 parameters?

Put another way, it means there are 112 reasons why it won't work, just a few of which are mentioned in the owners handbook, such as:

The engine may not stop under certain conditions, for example:

  • Low engine operating temperature.
  • To maintain the interior climate.
  • The battery charge level is low.
  • The outside temperature is too low or too high.
  • Opening the driver door when in motion.
  • The heated windshield is on.
  • During regeneration of the gas particulate filter.

Since you have just got your new car (looks nice) I'll try and give you a quick run down of the situation.

Firstly Stop/Start very rarely works. It was only ever invented to get the cars through the government emmisions   test so manufactures could get type approval.

You need to accept that it is only a gimmick, and if and when it works will be up to the car.

There are approximately 112 individual conditions that have to be "just right" before the Stop/Start system will operate. This includes the battery state of charge, but there are many, many more things that have to be right.

I'll post a YouTube video of a Ford garage looking for a problem on a Focus Mk4 and it will help explain why it very rarely works.

I remembered once time my old focus was pain in *****, auto stop and start randomness stopped working due faulty code hidden as due camshaft sensor detection slow responding (couldn’t fixed as it’s decided blew head gasket before chance repairing it)

Cornering lights were in the headlamps on these, not fog lamps.

The headlamps on this car are standard
