  • Hi, I definitely wouldn't swap one wetbelt Focus for another wetbelt Focus. The 1.0 Honda Civic also uses wetbelt so be careful if you do go for a Civic. Personally I'd go for the Skoda

used mint electric cars are selling for less than the equiv petrol /diesels - most batteries have 80% life left at 10 years - chose well and get a heat pump one with a decent battery and fast charging (for the odd out of home top up), most are high trim spec, and if doing that few miles might never need to service for years and only pay a hundred a year for home charging

Autocar  had an article on this recently. An ex-Uber Tesla 3 with 176k miles was found to still have 90% battery capacity and a "real world" range of around 250 miles.

I personally am not interested in Ev's. The thought never crossed my mind but Thanks for advising

As an owner of used EV  of nearly 3yrs( car 5 yrs old) and nearly zero issues (12v battery replaced), I'm more than pleased with my purchase. Even my partner's thinking of getting one also. Don't knock what you haven't tried.

twice as fast 1/3 the operating cost

ethanol causes severe issues in little used vehicles (its why they put it in there to make us all poor)  it grows bugs that excrete acetic acid, this etches metals damaging them which then allows the water the ethanol draws in from the environment to destroy sender units, pipes, pumps and injectors - it has a safe shelf life of 4 weeks and its mostly sold at supermarkets at 3 weeks age already used up....   after 3 months its eating your car from within....   its evil filth like the governments killing, maiming, stealing and creating all the issues worldwide

Was that covered under the extended warranty?

Starting to wonder whether all 12v batteries are just badly made nowadays.  Surely it's not a CO2 regulation limiting 12v battery charging on EV's?  I know there were some programming issues on earlier EV's but it can't be difficult to tweak that in a software update.

I think the ones sold to Ford are, my Yuasa replacement one is still going strong.

That's the key point though isn't it?

IF a person DOES have home charging, running an EV can be very cheap in terms 'fuel' costs but about 65-70% of the UK do NOT have off road parking and as soon as you have to start using 3rd party charging points, the cost per mile sky rockets. Let alone considerations around the inconvenience of finding 3rd party charging points that both realiably work and are generally not all in use when you need them.

Nowadays it seems like you need a home charger for the 12v battery on an ICE car anyway!

I am not knocking it. It's just something that's never interested me but I am extremely glad you won't have a bad thing said about ev's and why should you? I respect your views and all those who are pleased with their ev's.

12v battery's do seem to be failing at high levels of any brand or rebrand OEM. I couldn't be arsed to go to dealer to get battery replaced and just went to local motor factor for a cheap£70 battery with 5 yr warranty. That battery has since been faultless so doubt the car was at fault. My car charges the 12v not only when driving but stationary , parked up locked and left for up to 4 days.

Certain manufactures vehicles are having  unusually high replacement volumes. 🤫

at want of offending others - if you don't have off-street parking you shouldn't be allowed to own a car

Using your seemingly entirely arbitrary logic, if you can't afford to send your children to a private school, you shouldn't be allowed to have kids 🤣

How on earth can anyone genuinely believe that would be a viable approach to things i.e. in the real world?

The economy would grind to a halt due to 65-70% of the population NOT being able to get to work 🤦

Or stick to Diesel, on my drive, like I do.

Or a lovely, un-catalysed, carburettor fed, 3.0 V8 Triumph Stag👍

"Ban cars and oil"

Oh, we can't pay lazy people, no Tax

Yes they did, because the ***** pit/mine or factory was on their doorstep! Not 35 miles away 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

and yet the world uses more coal now than ever before...

thatcher did what donald has been shouting about - its got nothing to do with the environment - it was only ever about stealing you and your children's chance of a life - so her mates could thieve all the money - did u see yesterday they announced HS2 won't even be done 7 years late and "magically" at double the budget

they just use these infrastructure projects to thieve the slaves taxes and trouser it all for their mates - the more delays the more they can spend all the money on new cars (had to get it back on track somehow... 🚘

I'll agree with you on your point that each party that has been in power, has used large infrastructure projects to play the old 'brown envelope' game with their mates and probably themselves (in some indirect and hard to prove way).

I'd agree with Botus if he'd said that he meant mainly the newer VAG stuff, some versions of the 2.0 TSI have been shocking unreliable.
