Why do Ford describe my Focus as 2020 Focus (2018)?

Used my Vin number to identify my recently acquired Focus mhev 1L and Ford list it as 2020 Focus (2018) . The registration is 2020 so why the 2018 suffix? Have I been missold an earlier model?

    My 21 plate T.X. is identified the same way, I understand that it's linked to the beginning of the model MK4 / 4.5 2018 onwards👍

    As Mark says, it relates to the last major revision of a model, in the case of the Focus 2018, when it went from Mk 3 to Mk 4. As a further example, my 2023 Fiesta is shown as Fiesta (2017).

    Last revision makes sense. It was important to me as I believe I have a cam chain on this model rather than the wet cam belt on the earlier model. Many thanks for the replies guys.

    You do, but there is still a wet belt for the oil pump drive which requires changing at 10 years.
