Broken Garage Door??

Featured Replies

Rather than faff about trying to remove the power supply or worse, relocating it, I done the smart thing and took a dremel to the garage door unit and cut a hole for the power socket. Worked out really well. What you think lads?

You wanted an ash tray though didn't you? So wouldn't you of had to of had that unit for the ash tray? I don't want one in my car so I was able to do this. Dremel works surprisingly well I'm really pleased with it.

I have the one designed for the mk2 I believe yours was the mk2.5 one?

I believe so yes, apart from the ash tray, hows yours different mate?

The lighter socket is built into the right hand side and the socket light shines through a slot and through a green panel on the side of the ashtray into the tray itself.

Oh yeah I know that mate, was thinking bout getting it but I don't want the ash tray bit and then thought I don't want the socket built in right at the front cause then my satnav charger will protrude out by the gearstick, that's why I trumped for this one so I still have full use of a larger cubby hole that the satnav charger will fit in the same as before and not stick out ;)

What size drill bit/cutter did you use?

Fair one, I have found that my iPod charger sticks out too far to close the flap but I pull it out when not in use anyway so no big problem.

All I did mate was use a skinny drill bit to initially drill a hole, wiggle it about lol to make it a bit wider and upped the speed. Then when it was wide enough I switched to a skinny grinding attachment, then swapped that for a wide grinding attachment then used that to make it wider and wider going round in a circle then i test fitted it to see how close it was, then I put in the rubber circle attachment with a ring of sand paper on it to finish and smooth it off

I tracked down mine on ebay from a breakers in essex, only paid a bargain 25quid for it delivered and he asked what colour I wanted so he's bound to have more than the one. I've already messaged him asking if he had any more for you too so he should get back to me on monday, I'll PM you his details now as well anyway.

The one i linked to is a Ford standard carbon style and not hand wrapped as far as i can tell from the pic.

probably is mate i meant its the same guy selling them he only ever sells 1 at a time so hes clearly buying them up and making a killing off them so far ive seen 10 sell for up to 55 quid as low as 41 quid breakers are doing them for 25 delivered so thats a fair mark up im a scot i hate being ripped off lol

you got yourself a bargain!!!

As if this carbon fibre one went for 22quid and I paid 25 for mine delivered and had to wrap it myself

Saw another here:

is that what it's like inside? I sort of only want a door to cover the cubby hole where the lighter socket is... seems like this fills the cubby up with a lot of useless plastic and leaving only a small storage space (I don't actually want/need an ashtray...)

The mk2 trays have a fixture for moving the 12v socket forward from the back of the cubbyhole.

The mk2.5 one is just a tray as the 12v socket is on the console.
