jacksargent93
Okay so I have only been driving nearly 3 years nearly and have had no luck with cars what so ever! I am now on my 5th car, two of which being Ford. So now I have eventually picked up my Focus. With bad luck with cars I am now 4k in debt with family. But thats fine ^_^. I do have some plans for my car, as I really need to keep this one and not total it, wreck it, sell it or ANYTHING. But obviously with lack of cash its just going to have to be small things at a time. What I want to do is: alloys - either Ford or Black aftermarket Tinted windows - Air Con controls - everyone does this one, and it looks great - Carbon wrap center console - also need a new handbrake leaver as the button on the end is cracked Maybe a few LED's in footwells - but they will be 12v in cigarette lighter ( I will buy a splitter majigy ma thingy bob) ;) WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT ON DOING THAT WITH FOOTWELL LED's? As I am no good with wiring - this seems the easy thing to do. And of course any other little bits to do to it. Any feedback will be awesome sic a references, links to products and your opinions. Thanks :)
salsheikh
Welcome to the forum Jack. The most expensive thing will be your alloys so do the simple and cheaper jobs first! Wirings not my forte either so i wont advise you on that but are you sure you havent got the wiring in place already? Carbon Fibre on the dash will look good and it shouldnt be too difficult. Thankfully there are lots guides on here to help you so good luck!
artscot79
to be honest the alloys are decent i wouldnt spray them or touch them but maybe lower the car instead it would be a bit cheaper

Also, how have you gone about it if you arent very good with wires also? to be honest the alloys are decent i wouldnt spray them or touch them but maybe lower the car instead it would be a bit cheaper Hey! On the car at the moment, they are wheel trims. If I had those alloys I wouldnt touch them. Unfortuanly, I'm stuck with steels at the moment... ugly :(
jeebowhite
I just wired in LED's and followed Lenny's guide and came up with a few answers myself. 1) buy yourself the "illuminated ignation barrel" mod 2) buy yourself a pack of crimp "butt" connectors. 3) buy yourself a crimp tool. It really is easy. Follow the guide on this forum to install the illuminated ignition barrel (Stoney871's guide). Then when you have it installed, take the 12v speaker wire as advised in Lenny's guide. I bought a 5metre wire, and cut it at about 1.5 metres. then ran that wire down the driver side, and the 3.5m along behind the centre console, along the back of the fusebox, and down through the door to the rear footwell. I then bought 5x LED strip lights off eBay and wired those in so I had the below sort of very poorly and most likely the worst electrical diagram ever. And the fusebox I refer to is in the footwell of the passengers side. :)
jacksargent93
See that sounds !Removed! scary! Its just little things like, how do I get it to the fusebox under the bonnet?1 Where do I plug it in the fusebox?! Haha, I am so useless. Ignition barrell woild be a good one. Also DRL's :P
jeebowhite
Ammended my post above, now includes the picture. I like that mod because I didnt have to interfere with any of the car's own electrical wires, I just modded a plugin one then messed about with that :) as for DRL's, I dont quite have the dosh, so were Lenny and Preee did an excellent mod with the replace the fog light surround, I am looking to do something a little more budgetary :p
vince_13
welcome, picked a good car there, i was very pleased coming back to ford with a focus, i wouldn't advise using the cigarette lighter to power leds, unless you add in a switch, as its 12v constant feed even with engine off, ive taken power from the interior light to power the leds in the footwell and the ignition ring, (all of which is explained in lennys guide) therefore the leds only come on when the car is unlocked/door opened
jacksargent93
You talk of constant power, how would this do? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360605959750?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 That has switches on so I can switch them on off whenever I like? And also has nice lighting on it as well :P - so let me know if that would cure the constant power.. Just ordered the heater controls so they will be on their way from Chine tomorrow :D Again, any opinions, options what so ever are welcome :) Thanks :)

vince_13
it would take some modifying to be able to wire out from that, have a look at my build thread where i fitted a switch to turn my sub on and off and this was in place of the centre console cigarrette lighter, you could do the same but run the leds from the switch http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/42411-vinnies-project-log/

I thought that would be dead simple plug and go. I'd love to be able to fit buttons and custom that kind of stuff, but it really isn't my thing, as I possibly couldn't do it. Unless someone from Gloucestershire is on here
vince_13
yh that device takes the voltage from the cig lighter plug and then has 4 sockets, that you would plug other cig lighter plugs into for sat nav etc, you would have to dismantle the device to find the 12v sources then add 2 wires 1+ve and 1 -ve from there to the leds bulbs. (more work imo) first thing i would do is get under the dash and look for the brackets to see if the loom is fitted (if it is then push a bulb in thats it)
jacksargent93
Could show me what a loom looks like? And what exactly is a loom? Haha apologies for my lack of knowledge
vince_13
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Biggster/KODAKS/mk2_footwell_lights.jpg that what ya looking for, the blue light is the bulb, push your finger through the hole and if you feel something on the other side chance is you have the loom, so fit a bulb, if when you put your finger through it and nothing is there you will need to build/buy a loom and bulb holders (the whole 9 yrads)
jacksargent93
Okay will check tomorrow if there is a loom there, if not... Sod it. This is the first I have ever wanted to mod my car properly. Its not looking good at the moment haha :(
vince_13
the trick ive found is too do plenty of research, took me couple of weeks to put that switch in, purely because i wanted to make sure i had everything and everything i got would fit and work here on the forum is good place aswell because some may of already done the mod remember anything possible haha ;)
Jon-lee
The way i tested if they had power was to borrow a bulb from the boot courtesy light an plug that in, have a look on the guides section, theres some pictures of where the holders will be if it has them
jeebowhite
haha, electrical diagrams are by no means my speciality :p that is a very poor effort and the simplest I could draw it...
jacksargent93
So, xenon bulbs will be ordered tomorrow, along with pedal covers. Would anyone be kind enough to link me to universal mudguards (usually as they are cheaper) that will definitely fit my focus. Thanks :)
artscot79
Easier method is to fit door handle leds inside which are on with the ignition they tap into the elec window switch lighting give a nice light without being too much
gforce
Hi mate, good plans to start off with the small bits and pieces...warning though, it gets addictive, fast! I have a set of genuine Ford mudflaps, the moulded shape ones, if they're any good to you? They came off my car when the ST kit went on as they don't fit with the skirts and rear bumper. jacksargent93
That would be cool, how much would you be asking? Inc postage. They easy to put on? Thanks mate :)
