Bonnet Open On The Dash When Its Closed ? Alarm Going Off ?

Featured Replies

Check the connector blocks on the footwell fuseboard.
It's easy to unseat a connector just enough to cause problems.

Sorted it, in the time it takes to unlock the front door, open the passenger door, unclip the carpet, reseat clip, go around the car to put key in ignition, what,  30 seconds?,  i love this site, cheers all. 😀

So it was a block on the board then?

I recently had this problem on my 2010 focus. Replaced the bonnet catch part, regally quick job, 2 10mm screws then it clips off. Not had any problems with alarm or dash warning since.

9 times out of ten the problem's electrical. Before you start dismantling hardware always check the wiring I had the same problem with my ford focus bonnet being open when it was closed and the alarm going off in the early hours of the morning so I took the switch off and bridge it problem solved. happy motoring🤠

There is a common issue with ford cars where the wiring to the fuse box, in the front passengers footwell  is easily knocked by passengers feet, there are wires plugged into the fuse box in the footwell which can be release by pulling the plastic clip on the socket towards you. Try pushing the clip away from you to ensure the wires are properly connected. Had this issue with a c-max where the bonnet warning light was coming on and the dashboard fan stopped working. Someone had knocked the clip with their feet and caused all sorts of problems, could of cost loads to eliminate the potential issues, but in the end was a 30 second job to resolve it.

this answer saved me alot of trouble. Wife got locked i car  by accident  and was trashing  around  when alarm wet off and  flipped that  wire  holder with  her foot.    thanks  again

I bought a 65 plate Grand C=Max in 2019, and all was fine. 5 months in, the alarm started going off. I took it back to the dealers but the could find no fault. After months of this happening I took it to a Ford main dealer who said it was the Body Control Module, and would need replacing, at £1000+

I went back to the original dealer quoting the law that states if a fault appears within 6 months of purchase, it is deemed to have been there at the time of purchase. So they accepted liability. Over the last year or so it has been in and out of the dealership, whilst they try to fix it. (It wasn't the BCM). My money is on the bonnet sensor, but oddly I don't get a specific light, just a red info light, and the fault then disappears after about 20 mins or pulling the battery, whichever comes first.

They said it was the ultrasonic sensor inside the car, so as test, they disconnected all the interior sensors. 12 days later and 7 alarms they all appear to still be the "interior".

Hope this helps someone - so it still appears to be an issue (they also did software updates, but that made no difference), although it still isn't fixed yet, I haven't had to pay for any parts or labour. I just want it back, working, because, alarm aside, it's a good car.

I had this problem on my 2014 Focus recently. Had the bonnet resprayed and appears the guy must have broken the bonnet catch switch while he was doing it. The actual catch was fine and the bonnet shuts securely. However I kept getting the "Bonnet open" alert intermittently while driving along and the alarm going off at random and annoying the neighbours. Thanks to this site I pulled the cable out of the bonnet catch (there's a little plastic clip you need to push in while you're pulling it). You can then see that the cable end has a 2 prong socket. While it's disconnected if you get into the car and start it up the "bonnet open" message is on constantly. What I did was to cut off  half an inch of gardening wire and strip the coating off either end. I was then able to push each end of this little bit of wire into the bonnet cable socket to short it out. Secured the cable under another one nearby and started back up and the "bonnet open" message has gone and I've had my first nights sleep without the alarm going off for a couple of months! Thanks for all the hints and tips.

I've had this problem with my 12 plate Fiesta for years. There is a tiny Microswitch that is part of the bonnet catch mechanism that gets full of grime and tells the car that the bonnet is open. I've taken it all out and given it a good clean and that seemed to sort it for a while but it's not forever. If I drive home from work and the bonnet open warning comes on I know the alarm will go off at some ungodly hour. So I pop the bonnet open, lock the car and then lift the bonnet and disconnect the battery. I'd rather do this than let the alarm sound off late at night.

Hey guys ,

i recently bought a 2013 ford fiesta eco boost

i did crash it and had to replace headlight and a new front number but no engine issues occurred during my crash

since getting it back i keep getting bonnet open signal occasionally its when im only driving for about 5-10 minutes but its progressingly getting worse as the more i drive , i have my driving test soon and no warning lights can come on or they will stop my test

does anyone know how to solve this

my car alarm rarely goes off but it has maybe a few times out of the blue

Any help greatly appreciated
