smngry
Just sat waiting for the missus this afternoon and had the window down. So thought I'd have a little play with the air conditioning seeing as it's a new car (08 Focus Climate). I knew it came on automatically when you had the air vents turned fully to 'windscreen' and turned the heaters on, but when I turned it on today I could hear a whining noise which eventually disappeared. I then turned it off and back on, but when I turned my blowers onto number 2, the noise came back. Just wondered what this could be?
jeebowhite
could be the aux pulley I suppose, or its more likely to be the condensor?
theduke
could also be the compressor, you would normally hear a click from the comp clutch when you turn the ac on hearing a whining would suggest the compressor is at fault to me, could also be worn pulley or belt even a fault with the condesor fan
smngry
Cheers lads. Only did it that once yesterday, but just thought I'd see if noises arising from turning the A/C on were common. I'll keep an ear out for any future noises
gurcayy
I have the same problem and the problem is from that pulley:
smngry
Has it lost some tension or is it a common noise to hear from time to time?
ForTim
This should be my AC compressor pulley, I guess (held in hand). It's not supposed just to be taken off like this (when aux belt is removed)? It seems to be broken. Could you point me how it is supposed to look like? I can't find it new, stores where I buy just don't sell it, and I'll probably have to try to find a used one.
Dave1981
I had a whine from mine when I 1st got the car. I changed the belt and had it regased and it went away.. I'd try those 1st
ForTim
I had a whine and wanted to change the belt, but it turned out something is wrong with the compressor. Bearing was split from the pulley and stayed on the compressor. Since I was driving like that some time, not knowingly, even with new bearing added, AC doesn't work. I didn't test further whether it's pulley-clutch or magnet, I'll probably wait for the spring with that.
