  • Well, car came back from the garage, the alignment on the front is still off a bit so it's going back out on Monday morning. Not to worry. The car was stinkin' filthy so I managed to get a quick wash

  • The postman brought me a nice wee parcel today. Got my new HID set. Nice and white. Very pleased. I've noticed though that these being 55w, the 'click' I usually get when turning on my light

Thanks. Definitely prefer the colour of 6000k over the 8000k. Far brighter, whiter light.

Nice and white. Very pleased.

I've noticed though that these being 55w, the 'click' I usually get when turning on my lights, from the fuse box, has gotten louder. More strain on the fuse/electrics possibly?

Also, last weekend I was at a local tyre place to see if they could sort my alignment once again. Long story short: two front tyres are directional and were on the wrong sides. Swapped over, steering started pulling ever so slightly to the opposite side, mech said to switch front and rear tyres about. Did that today and alls well again. No pull and steering feels lighter. Happy boy.

I managed to get one caliper painted then the rain started.

Probably could have done with another coat but not to worry.

I bought a can of Panther Black to paint my lower lip of the front bumper but didn't get around to it because of this useless climate we live in here.

Looks like the E-tech stuff I used a few years ago. I had a similar idea of green on a black car when I had my Bora. Looks good Kiefer!

My car seems to lurch when moving off from standstill sometimes. I've have coil pack replaced which helped for a while but not for long. Also I get a tweeting/squeaking sound coming from timing belt area when I first start the car in the morning. This only started happening a couple weeks after I had timing belt changed. I'm convinced it wasn't done properly. Other things/noises/small running issues are making me feel that something bad could happen at anytime.

Now after reading around various places and scenarios I've been thinking on getting all the parts needed for a major service rather than bits n pieces here and there.

What I'm thinking is:

- Timing belt, Tensioners and water pump

- Thermostat

- Coil pack with new leads and plugs

- Oil change with filter

- Gearbox oil check

Right now the car sounds a bit rattley and gurgly when accelerating and it's very unnerving.

Any opinions/thoughts on what I've described or what I should do?

It's a TiVct engine if that makes any difference.

So I've been crying a wee bit about how my cars running lately. Out of curiosity I was out checking the oil so I decided to check my air box and throttle bottle too.

Air box and oil was fine as far as I could see.

Looked in the throttle body and saw this:

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question but I'm guessing it's not supposed to be that dirty in there?

Symptoms I've been experiencing in the car is rough idle and poor acceleration under load.

All joking aside, is there a specific way to clean a throttle bottle or do I just go for it ?

Sent from my iPhone 5s.

Use Spray carb cleaner and a stiff nylon brush (a hard bristle toothbrush may suffice).

Spray, scrub and wipe the loosened crud with paper towels then repeat until spotless.

Carb Cleaner. Cool. Was just googling for a while there and carb/contact cleaner seemed to be the most mentioned. Wil attack tomorrow :) cheers Clive.

Can also take TB off, soak with foam oven cleaner , brush clean, then rinse and dry. :)

Oven cleaner stinks though.

It's has ammonia in it.

Well I cleaned it today with Wynn's Carburettor Cleaner. It fairly ripped through the dirt that was there. After putting the throttle body back in and going for a drive I notice no difference lol still bogging down/lurching when I out my foot down for a second. It's maybe a bit smoother in the gear changes and accelerating when up to speed but that's about it.

Back to the drawing board with regards to the lurching/bogging down.

Have you checked your spark plugs?

Yep had them and the coil pack changed a while back. Might got for changing the coil, pack and plugs all in the one go next time.
