  • Definitely check all connections in the footwell fusebox. They are easy to kick by accident and a common cause of random power/system problems.

This isn't a key fault.

poor connection at connector c112 (behide passengers footwell (behind kick trim) should be a blue block. Disconnecting this and putting it back together can cure ur problem

If not the problem maybe your cluster

re light is flashing rapidly is because the PCM has lost communication with the cluster these 2 modules must talk to each other before the vehicle is allowed to crank and start

If this don't cure the fault. Next is too test if you 60ohm resistence between pin 6 and 14 doc and make sure u have voltage at fuses 9 ,30 &36.

Also check the violet 3amp fuse in engine bay fuse box

Btw

fuse 9 should have battery voltage either side

As should fuse 36 and 30 (ignition on )

These power the PCM

Also with the ignition on can you check the voltage at pin 6 to ground and pin 14 to ground

At the diagnostic plug

Stoney come to my threads and help me lol :)

thanks for your suggestions, i checked the violet fuse in the engine bay and it was ok. i don't have my multimeter handy, but i shall be getting it tomorrow. i didn't disconnect the battery because i went out all day saturday drinking, and sunday was a write off!

the diagnostic plug is to the right of the driver knee yeah? just underneath the dash?

when you say i should be seeing a voltage, are we talking 12-13v or something a lot less? battery was checked at 12.88 when not under load.

Did u reconnect that plug ? It's common problem if u carry passages

U don't need to do the other stuff unless that plug is fine

which plug do you mean? you only mention the diagnostic plug and i don't have my multimeter handy...

Your car system talks too the cluster... This connection block maybe lose causing your problem. If u reconnect it your car will see the cluster and allow u to start the car.

  • Author

thought you meant that, but your description differed somewhat!ill go have a look at that in a sec

  • Author

whats this cluster you speak of?

The pats system needs too connect too your cluster (where your speedo, rev counter, mileage) ect is.

Normal ur problem can be caused by the blue connector block Behide passagers kick panel.

Just disconnect battery and disconnect and reconnect all the connector blocks visable :)

Right I checked all the plugs in the fuse board and removed them all and put them back in. I didn't have the tools to disconnect the battery and I noticed a little oxidisation on one of the connector pieces, but nothing to clean it with. But I did try the car again and it hasn't made a difference. Tomorrow I will disconnect the battery and try and clean the crap off of the connector.

Was the oxidisation on the blue plug ?

If this don't work. Carry on with the steps in my perv post when u have ur muilt meter come

  • Author

That looks nothing like my one, mine is all on a lovely White Board. The oxidisation was on an orange block at the back end of the fuse tray.

Yeah I removed and replace all the connectors, both top and bottom of the fuse tray. There was like 7 or 8 in total

The picture is for mk2 and 2.5. Are u looking at side kick panel?

Or under glovebox ?
