It's perfectly possible for a clutch,or a clutch component to fail at 80,000 kms - remapped or not.

  • Noisey release bearing got nothing to do with remap, agree high torque can put a strain on clutch friction plate, but the extra torque is minimal on 1,0 ecoboost. as you say clutch is not slipping.

  • Approximately 140bhp. Pulls like a train :D literally get pushed back into my seat if accelerating hard.

you say 80,000km or 80km? I have heard of people having clutch problems on 100ps model after 50k and 80,000 km is 49,709Miles

Aye Wully stop showing off XD ....... :( Lucky BAstarred.png?version=1&modificationDate=1 D :lamo::rolleyes: :P
Not jealous type but you changed me HAHA

Its 80.000km (eighty thousand). I still think its to early for the clutch parts to give in. we're typing 2015 now. they should've learned to build a better clutch/transmission by now. :)

So, my car is finally back from the mechanic. The clutch release bearing was REALLY bad. it was replaced and now the Mafiesta runs like a champ again. :driving:

is it the bluefin 100bhp up to 140bhp map you got? What is it like?

Yes it is. It's great.! :D really pulls like a train.

Its good, even on my focus, and no, my clutch is fine after 7000mls of having it on, now on 34k

I'm gonna wait til my last year of warranty :( at least bluefin cover that last year anyway but damn I want it.

Don't worry about warranty just do it :) you'll never go back to standard

I never had / have problems with Bluefin on 3 different Ford / P.S.A. engines spanning over 3 years.

Failed release bearing is much more likely due to a foot testing on the clutch pedal.

And personally at 80k kms I'd always change all clutch components rather than just one.

Personal opinion.

i agree with that, nothing to do with a remap, my last car had very agressive remap that i did myself extra 60bhp (320bhp) and lots of extra torque throughout rev range ,( wheel spin in first 3 gears ) no clutch issues either.lol

Think the 1ltr have light fly wheels and felt a bit weak in the clutch bite at times... Didn't get the impression they where built fro the track. More for town driving and refinement.

Flywheel and pressure plate aren't relevant to release bearing failure.

Although in my own opinion ALL clutch components should be replaced if anything fails within the clutch housing, and if possible, an updated item should be fitted where a motor has had performance enhanced.

This issue is a bitter sweet experience,  I upgraded my Ecoboost 125 with mountune induction kit with primary and secondary induction hoses,  the performance increase was negligible.  I looked at the mountune remap, but as I had bought the induction kit without the filter (as I'd put in a performance filter in 2 weeks earlier), I didn't have a certain code which is supplied by mountune when you buy the same filter from themselves.  Sooo I bought the Bluefin.  ***** fantastic performance increase!

All was good, until a few weeks ago where I couldn't engage first or second gear, even with double clutch, nothing!  I took the Bluefin off and run the car as I normally would.  Now, first engages with a little force, second will grind.  Every. Single. Time.  A few days ago when I was sitting at the side of the road trying to find the elusive first and second, I had a strop and looked at Autotrader telling the car I'm sending her to the scrap heap.  Saw an advert for an ST with a price I could actually afford.   I'm now the proud owner of a Fiesta ST.  My old friend held up her gearbox problems whilst the carsales guy took her for a drive....

I told lots of my friends to get a Bluefin because, for the first 4 months, it was unbelievably amazing.  Now, I tell them, pay the extra and get the mountune remap.

Don't do it!

What makes you think it was the remap, and it being the Bluefin one in particular, that caused the problem(s) you describe?

I can't help but feel that any mechanical issue following a remap seems to get blamed on the remap itself and whilst undoubtedly some might be there needs to be some evidence linking the two if we are to draw any conclusions either way.

If there is any correlation I imagine a lot of it is down to the driving style that would generally be inherent of the type of person that performs a remap. That's not a dig; I am merely pointing out that there is surely a link between someone wanting extra performance and them likely choosing to make use of it! Putting extra demands on the car will always increase mechanical wear, particularly on components like synchromeshes which is where it sounds like your problems lie.

The bluefin map is unfortunately known for issues, and it's agrresive torque delivery is one of them. Limp mode issues are another as I've had 3/4friends go to Revo in the last 2 weeks after having issues with bluefin. Taking advantage of their 35% off after coning from another map

Late 2015 Red edition 140 with a Bluefin put on after running in (400 miles) now 7500 miles and only twice have I had it go into limp mode and both times it was below 3c and I was making progress before it was warmed up to temp. turned off & back on fault gone, no codes.

I don't red line it & thrash it within an inch off it`s life & I certainly do not poodle around, Never had any clutch issues and the difference the Bluefin makes is great, but that's just my opinion, lol

More issues with the bluefin 👀

  • 1 year later...

Just want to add on my old Suzuki Alto I had a bearing go at 30,000. I had the entire clutch changed at the same time as that was heavily worn and only had an estimated few months left on it.

80000km seems perfectly normal for clutch based issues to need resolved.

I understand the higher output Mk7.5 ecoboost had a torque restriction in the software on 1st/2nd to protect the transmission from the kind of problems mentioned in this thread.

Wondered if anyone knew it that was still the case with the 6 speeders on the Mk 8? Reason for asking is I get the feeling (no more than that) that my car seems to start pulling harder once in 3rd.

Are the clutch issues unique to bluefin, or do remaps such as Revo have the same problems?

Following this was going to get mine done by celtic tuners ,156 bhp plus nearly 200 lbs torque
