Private Number Plates

Featured Replies

Why would you want private number plates?

I wouldn't mind having one because they hide the age of your car, and personalise it a bit. Far too expensive for a decent one though. I suppose it's a bit like giving your house a name instead of a street number, but that's not something I'd do.

I decided it was easier to change my own name to match my number plate. My name is now SA14FDE. Not my actual regards above.

  • Private number plates? Pffffffft ;)

  • You can make a car appear older than what it actually is, but you're not allowed to make the appear newer For instance on a 13 plate you can have a 62 plate and backwards, but you're not allowed a 63

You need to select carefully then, my neighbour (the major) had a Yaris on an 'S' plate. I said that looks good for 99, he wasn't best pleased.

Lol I know what you mean, I've seen quite a few that seem to have chosen private plates that look like a regular plate from the 90s. Anyone not familiar with the car could be fooled into thinking it's really old.

I've owned my personal registration since 2005, my username is a give away ;)

As soon as I sold my old Clio, I transferred the private registration straight over to the Fiesta at a cost of £80 (scandless!) then had the original registration put back onto the Clio before I legally sold it on.

The reasons for having a private plate, kinda put's your mark on the vehicle I think :D

Saves the hassle of changing your parking permit when you get a new car.

I looked into private plates via DVLA, for one with a date that matches my car (15) they were asking £750.

The older the registration the cheaper they tend to be.

Clive, nice choice on the new wheels ;)

Yes it does, and with that reg looking like one from ages ago but on a clearly new car, anyone will see that it's a private reg unlike some I've seen (e.g. a brand new Audi which I thought was 10 years old, just shows how little they change the design of their cars).

Mines just bog standard boring ;)

ive got both cars with private plates , had them years as said it hinds the year of the cars my fireblade runs on irish plates

It looks even stupider when someone buys a specific plate to a car then gets a different car but uses same plate. Ie PNK X5 when they actually owned a pink bmw X5. Now that same plate on blue ford focus.

^ True!!
