They issue them in the beginning - so probably yes.

I decided it was easier to change my own name to match my number plate. My name is now SA14FDE. Not my actual regards above.

  • Private number plates? Pffffffft ;)

  • You can make a car appear older than what it actually is, but you're not allowed to make the appear newer For instance on a 13 plate you can have a 62 plate and backwards, but you're not allowed a 63

I'm confused on what happens when purchased.

Do you need to sort all legalalities out yourself? Direct from the dvla website that is

Just phoned plates for less they are dearer than dvla and offer to do all paperwork for £20 seems ok

take a look at

http://primoregistrations.co.uk

they cheaper than some, most places will do the paperwork for you , but its all straight forward really, bought our plate 15 april and got the plates and v750( certifcate of entitlement) today. doing the paperwork myself as it would involve sending newreg my v5 paperwork.

had a private plate since 1990,and changed cars many times since and had no problems.

Dvla are the best place. They do all the paperwork for you.

with dvla tho you after buy a number plate from somewhere else they only send you out the paper work saying you now own it newreg also send you out a plate what would you say best font would be to have

with dvla it takes 2week for all paper work to come to you then what happens? how do you put the plate in your car? also could i buy just a number olate now while i dont have my paper work then soon as paper work comes I'll have my plate ready to put on? but yeah what happens if i order it through dvla after all paper work comes

Dvla are the cheapest. Wait for paperwork to arrive then get plate made and put strait on the car. Done. Takes about a week.

youll after tell dvla you're puttig it on your car when plate comes tho won't you? or they will still think your using ur old plate then when police camora checks for insurance and tax nowt will show

The only font you can have is "Charles Wright" or one which is 'significantly similar', anything else is not UK legal.

They assume your putting on straight away so change your tax and MOT when you get your reg documents. You need to tell your insurance when you change it.

All you do is get the plates, tell your insurance and put the plates on. V5 comes later. Ask the DVLA or look on there site if your not sure.

Basically from DVLA they vary in price from £250 for older plates to over £800 for 15 plates and suchlike.

Some private sites can charge over £1000.

I replaced my plates just to get rid of the dealer advertising from them, and just used screws with the plastic covers to hide them. Sticking them on might look better but they could be ripped off by some inconsiderate person.

I stuck on my show plates (road legal except no postcode etc) using double sided tape, screwless makes it look much tidier

Richbrook do adhesive pads that are about 90% of the size of standard plates and stick like the proverbial to a blanket.
