This isn't the usual topic looking for opinions on whether or not to bother and I've already sent a PM to a couple of members who approve of V-Power, this is just feedback.

Firstly I didn't do this for extra MPG and I reckon it cost me about an extra £7 to fill up. In all the time I've had the ST, I've always used Shell Fuelsave unleaded. Recently, I've let a couple of tanks run to 0 miles until empty.

I tried V-Power which I thought would clear any crap in the tank and the first drive showed no difference at all. Now it has had chance to get through the system though, there is a noticeable difference.

When I put my foot on the accelerator, there is an instant response, very eager indeed even with a lighter foot. The car just feels like it wants to pounce at every opportunity and feels more lively. The car was never slow to respond before but it is more eager now.

I would recommend everyone to try a tank full every so often just to help clear any crap and to see if you can feel a difference.

v power may make a difference in some cars, but it has nothing to do with anything being in the tank..

I've been told that the extra additives of V-Power help clear crap (for want of a better word) that might have accumulated in the tank or the fuel filter. I'm not technically minded at all so rely on what I have been told.

what makes you think there may be some crap in the tank in the first place that a fuel filter wont stop?

I run a tack full of V-power a month, then usual shell the rest of the time.

Never really notice anything different with the v power performance wise (Bear in mind I drive a 1.25l not an ST)

But the cleaning additives do good for the engine. When I got the car last year, the engine was a little rough so I used v power for a month and it improved and runs like a dream now.

I'm sure someone with enough knowhow can tell us whether its all marketing BS from Shell or whether there is some truth behind it.

Nothing really, I've just read on various old topics that a full tank every so often can be good for the engine and dissolve anything that is there and has been stopped by the filter.

I don't want a 'This super unleaded stuff is BS' vs 'It's beneficial and worth it' debate, I was just passing my observations on and won't be filling up regularly with it.

Premium fuels have additives that basic legal fuels do not have - hence the added cost.

Better off adding Forte or BG244 regularly or use premium fuel every tank.

thats for the higher octane rating to cope with your map with extra ign timing advance , combats knock so extra power available.

But not with MP 215 . . . as there's hardly any difference.

I was told that by the dealer but my cars doesn't seem to like bp, don't seem to get as many miles out of a tank with it. Must be our area or something.

Only because of the sponsorship dealer when the focus was in WRC.

Cheapest, crapest petrol for last 35 yrs, never had a fueling issue on any of my cars, all ran fine

only used tesco momentum on high performance car, as it needed the higher octane

I find Asda & Morrisons basic petrol leaves the car feeling sluggish and slightly lumpy idle.

Shell Fuelsave eliminates the problem and I do tend to get an extra few miles out of the tank. Enough to cover the extra cost? No, but the car does feel better for it.

(For information: even my Mother asked me what was wrong with the car after I'd filled up at Morrisons the previous day. That was conclusive enough for me! Especially when a few weeks later she noted that the car felt "better...more normal, like it did do!")

Just to add amusement to the story...

I was filling up my '09 Zetec S today with Momentum 99, as I have done for many months now. In front of me, an older guy in a '13 Fiesta ST pulled up. Naturally, I'm a little bit jealous, at first, but then slightly shocked as he just puts regular unleaded in! Maybe he knows more than me when it comes to fuel - and let's face it, the fuel argument has happened a lot - but I'm really surprised you'd get an ST and not put better fuel in!

I drove off feeling baffled...

I have a small sticker under my ST's fuel flap recommending 97 ron and above.

This helps to explain the potential benefits.

If your car is calibrated to make the most of higher octane fuels, there will be benefits, otherwise the gains will be marginal at best (ECUs will not advance the timing beyond their calibration!).
