The Difference Of V-Power Unleaded In The St

Featured Replies

A mate of mine works as a tanker driver & when I have asked about cheaper fuel he advised me that the supermarket fuel is the same as the BP/SHELL/TOTAL standard fuel.

Says he delivers to all the local filling stations and it's the same fuel from same refinery (refinery sometimes changes depending on wholesale price).

The only difference is the premium fuels such as mentioned vpower/BP ultimate etc because of the additional adative.

That is a fact !

Of course it's fact, all fuel is made to a BS standard.

But seriously BP pay Ford for the sticker to go on the car and the same for the Oil sponsorship, same as Shell and Ferrari and Renault and Elf, happens with all of them.

The standard cars even ST's are supposed to have 95RON, just regular crap.

The extra "power" isn't power as the car will adjust fuelling to suit the map and instead it's actually the car running smoother as the fuel burns better, no power gain at all, mapping to run on 97-99 of course will give better results.

Morelike the multimillion £ / $ investment B.P. have put into Ford engine fuelling / lubrication r&d over the years.

So they only develop fuels for ford then? Or do they develop fuel to run in any engine?

Probably other manufacturers too - B.P. & Castrol have been in with Ford for decades.

Very true.

My old mk2 had 'Ford recommends BP' (or words to that effect) written on the fuel cap and my ST has a BP logo next to the octane recommendation label under the flap.

My first fiesta had a blank filler cap. That was an 04 plate. My 54 plate says Ford recommends BP fuels :)

Just to add amusement to the story...

I was filling up my '09 Zetec S today with Momentum 99, as I have done for many months now. In front of me, an older guy in a '13 Fiesta ST pulled up. Naturally, I'm a little bit jealous, at first, but then slightly shocked as he just puts regular unleaded in! Maybe he knows more than me when it comes to fuel - and let's face it, the fuel argument has happened a lot - but I'm really surprised you'd get an ST and not put better fuel in!

I drove off feeling baffled...

I'm the same, I thought if I'm going to see some benefits of using premium fuel then I think it's worth spending a little extra, considering I already spent extra money on a "performance" car. I know the difference may not be noticeable, but hopefully with the Mountune remap there is actually a good reason to use high octane fuel.

What gets me with all this is in America super unleaded is 95ron over here it's 97ron apart from tesco which is 99ron. My ST says on the filler cap use 95ron super, super plus fuel. So how can we ever tell what is right as ford are an American company recommending American quality fuel which is far worse than are's

Yes Ford are a U.S. company, but our fiestas are designed, tested and built in Europe to our regs etc, the US have different regs (CARB etc) and measure there fuel differently. The U.S. ST isn't calibrated the same as euro cars either, mapping done via MAP not MAF.

The cars will be calibrated to run on higher RON then will adjust to run lower, which will be easier to do than calibrate it to run on lower and try to make it adjust to higher RON fuel, the sticker is saying a min requirement of RON.

If you don't want to spend a few quid per tank extra( worth it for the cleaning additives) don't. I can't see the point of using Vpower once every few tanks, when the ECU needs a couple of tanks to adjust.

Hasn't american petrol got a lot more ethanol in it too?

Speaking with some american friends, the recon the petrol here in the uk is a lot better than what they get.

. . . & far more expensive too . . ! :o

only a little more, they pay 32p a litre last time i looked

32 p.p.l. ? ? ! I call that heaps cheaper than U.K. prices !

Venezuela have to pay £0.01/litre,

Just checked, gone up, now usa pay 42p litre ,

I remember filing a focus up over there and full tank only cost£22

Ian just checked with my bro who lives in the states.he current pays about £1.59 for a gallon .35p a litre. They only pay about 18% tax compared to 61% for our greedy government !!

They pay less because they produce more of the stuff than we do and import less of it.

We pay more because our oil industry is tiny by comparison and have to buy more from other countries.

When I lived in America about 15 years ago it was about 80c a gallon and they moaned about it then.

Yes but over 60% tax takes the !Removed! .We pay more tax on fuel than any other country in Europe.

U.K. F.E.D. + V.A.T. equates to approx' 81 ppl tax on diesel & petrol.

Yes its a disgrace !!
