1.6 Tdci. Dpf Deleted From Map. What To Do With The Dpf Itself

Featured Replies

My land rover came standard without a cat or dpf ...

It's running around 145 HP now & will happily fill the road with soot when you put your foot down.

It's veichles that are like this we should be concerned about. Not modern diesels with gutted Dpf's that run clean regardless.

My mini is even worse 1.0 petrol 15 mpg max still passes emissions somehow lol

Sounds like the mini could use a fuel cut defence mechanisim or launch control with a spark plug in the exhaust lol

Check out the setup on this volvo

  • It's just the fluid tank by the rear subframe that's missing, the rest is intact. The remap does make it run very clean now so maybe if I hollow out the dpf & then fit a dpf fluid tank just so

Check out the setup on this volvo

Its got a rev limiter & launch control, it's so highly sprung it's capable of 10,000Rpm with the limiter off.

It's approx double its original spec.

Might have to get an afterburner lol

Ha ha ha ha Lenny - the funniest thing I've ever seen ! :) :) :)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33254803

I take Lenny's points. It's a pity that so many have been hoodwinked into buying diesel cars, me included. It was pure luck that I chose the Ford 1.8TDCi which doesn't have a DPF as I didn't know anything about them or their problems at the time. It's been a great car, reliable and lovely to drive but it's now getting time to change it and with what I now know I won't be getting another diesel.

Where there's no smoke - there's no poke ! :)

Its the green brigades fault and Brown for changing the tax system on cars. I mean, 30 quid road tax for a diesel, its a no brainer, esp if you do a lot of miles.

But heres to kicker which really bug me, the folk who buy these cars new, never have to worry about the associated problems with DPFs, EGR etc, they can swan about saving the world in blissful ignorance, then the folk who can't afford brand new cars try and get in on the action as well only they get shafted with massive bills.

DPFs could easily have been made a serviceable part, they chose not to so as Lenny said, Why should we drive around with ticking bombs which were never explained at the point of sale.

my friend has a company here in cambridgeshire that does remaps.

He charges £199

Worth every penny

He's done both my cars & there both like totally different cars

Hmm, still more than I can afford atm, may ask you for his details in the future though! :)

As for the DPF gutting arguments...It's up the owner really. I'm well aware of the particulate problem, and hate following smoky diesels myself! Not to mention the NOx caused by blanking the EGR... But I've tried to do the 'right' thing and thrown a lot of money at replacing mine, to find its still causing me problems, wasting my fuel and wearing the turbo. I've owned about 15 or so diesels and this is the first with a DPF...I'd have no problem removing it and wish I'd spent the money on removal rather than replacement now, they just don't work as intended in my experience.

That's the issue - in the E.U. bureaucrat world the DPF is wonderful - in the real world it's a costly ill thought out engine killer

Euro 6 emissions are on their way, by the time we get to Euro 7 & 8 a horse & cart will be preferable - & faster too :)

. . . . . . and better for the environment B)

Yep, I completely agree!

By Euro 7 diesels will be phased out of private use I reckon, it'll all be small turbo petrols, diesel will just be for commercial use. Turbo petrols give torque and MPG these days and tax will be a flat rate by then, so there'll be very little reason to buy a diesel car new by then in my opinion.

'' and better for the environment '' - Not as long as China, India, the U.S.A. & countless other countries pollute the world to a far greater extent than all the diesels in the U.K. put together - multiplied by an infinite amount

Not sure about that, think of all the excrement and methane created if everyone owned a horse!!

At least the excrement makes good fertiliser and the horse also gets recycled!

Equine poo is good for your roses & one can run one's car on methane !

Not keen on equine burgers myself

But it's the diesels in the UK that are causing high levels of pollution in built-up areas and that's the issue in regards to public health.

The other countries are contributing to global warming (if you believe the science) more than the UK but that's a separate issue.

Oh, and civil aviation is dumping hundreds of tons of pollutants a second directly into the upper atmosphere but I don't notice any of the politicos commenting on that.

Biggest CO2 pumper in the world, Animals, add in the other greenhouse gasses like Methane and you'll soon find that we all need to become vegans to actually make a real difference to CO2 numbers.

What we need is hydrogen powered cars. Of course by the time they are made, sold and resold at a reasonable amount every day Joe can afford, we won't have any money left to buy one because of all the DPFs, horses and car taxes we have had to pay for to continue our daily commute

Whether hydrogen-powered cars, or electric ones for that matter, make a substantial difference depends entirely on how the fuel is produced. I.e. how much energy it takes and how much CO2 that source of energy produces.

They would at least solve the problem of urban pollution though.

There isn't any CO2 from hydrogen, my understanding is the only by product is water. The biggest problem with hydrogen is the delivery method and storage.

The Euro 6 emission limits for p.m. are exactly the same for petrol & diesels @ 0.005 g/km - so why are diesels worse ?

Their working on trying to harness that now aren't they ?

They would at least solve the problem of urban pollution though.

That's the problem right there though, you can only fix one thing, usually by making another worse... Electric cars are a terrible idea, the battery manufacture alone is bad enough....then you've gotta charge them up using electricity which comes from burning coal in most parts of the UK - using fossil fuels and creating more pollution. However, town centres would be cleaner...
