1.6 Tdci. Dpf Deleted From Map. What To Do With The Dpf Itself

Featured Replies

Thanks south_bound that's really helpful.

I would have no issues travelling to get it done based on good feedback. My only concern is that being in limp mode already, firstly it would be a long journey and second my understanding is that I could potentially cause more damage by driving it?

I've currently taken it off the road to prevent further damage..am I correct?

  • It's just the fluid tank by the rear subframe that's missing, the rest is intact. The remap does make it run very clean now so maybe if I hollow out the dpf & then fit a dpf fluid tank just so

Don't know, but many would not tempt fate by driving too far with the car obviously not happy. I took the risk, drove a few months with the "Engine Systems Fault" due to blocked DPF while I decided what to do...the car did not drive great but I needed to use it for to get back and forth to work. Then I drove about 1000 miles when the car went into limp mode just as I was setting off to come back from holiday the day before a bank holiday weekend and a ferry to catch - took it slow and steady (no choice) and didn't damage anything that I know about. Depends on your risk tolerance really.

The backpressure from a blocked DPF will put extra strain on the turbo...depends how badly worn your turbo is already as to whether it'll notice immediately or not though. Keeping revs and load low should help reduce the extra wear but you can't avoid it entirely.

Not sure I'd be up for the risk, I've only recently had a new turbo fitted due to issues with the previous one so I'd rather keep this one in good shape!

Also on balance a more local repairer may be a wise move in case issues arise further down the line but still willing to consider other options if the price and recommendations make it a good option.

to be fair, if you hav an under tray covering up the engine, it really isnt rocket science and they dont even need to do an amazing job, garage doing MOT cant see under the car in the first place.

Cut a hole, hammer out the brink, weld it back up, program ECU if its a modified map your looking for and just an off the shelf one at that, then its as simple as pluging in a laptop, 2 min later its done.

what bugs the hell out of me is that after a couple of jobs at the prices they charge for an off the shelf map they have more than recovered the cost of the gear and softwarel.

Does seem steep for what it is! Does the ECU not haved to be remapped then so that it's not looking for the DPF?

What would happen if it was just gutted without the remap? Although it would be a bit of fun the increased bhp and torque is not my primary incentive.

The garage I've spoken to offered me a standard remap at 109bhp or the better one at 135bhp, so I assumed that a remap was essential either way?

As I understand it the ECU does need to be told not to look for the DPF so some form of software modifiacation is needed or it will throw up errors. Also there is a plug under the the rear seat which needs to be disconnected to break the link with the Eloys fluid tank and I guess the ECU needs to be told that as well.

Yes, the ECU needs to be told there is no DPF, if not it may start a failsafe regen every 500 miles and melt things lol. It should also be told not add Eolys into your fuel tank, but a lot of 'mappers' bodge this by just unplugging the tank lol.

Up to you whether to go for the power increase or not, personally I would so you get some 'noticeable' benefit from the DPF removal for the cost of it!

Tom, not sure about your second point - I had understood that the bodgers filled up the Eloys tank with diesel while the right way to do it is to unplug the tank (as well as tell the ECU its not there any more)

No need to unplug it if you've electronically disabled it. Yes I've heard of filling the tank with diesel as another bodge lol.
