1.6 Tdci. Dpf Deleted From Map. What To Do With The Dpf Itself

Featured Replies

There isn't any CO2 from hydrogen, my understanding is the only by product is water. The biggest problem with hydrogen is the delivery method and storage.

You misunderstand - I was referring to the CO2 generated in the process of producing the liquid hdrogen.

  • It's just the fluid tank by the rear subframe that's missing, the rest is intact. The remap does make it run very clean now so maybe if I hollow out the dpf & then fit a dpf fluid tank just so

The Euro 6 emission limits for p.m. are exactly the same for petrol & diesels @ 0.005 g/km - so why are diesels worse ?

Because diesel burns differently. Petrol is lit by the spark and has a nice spread of flame through the cylinder burning all of the fuel (most of the time). Diesel just explodes as it's compressed and it happens so quickly it cant burn all of the fuel. Some will always be left over partly burnt and blown out through the exhaust as soot.

Nuclear Thorium reactor, electrolysis, hydrogen.

Until they can get Fusion working and generating usable electricity that little combo is as clean and useful as you can get, not that it will make any difference as population increases and so does livestock to support it.

It is entirely possible that a petrol engined car can emit more p.m. than a DPF equipped diesel then

Your right if its sourced from natural gasses, I think that's very heavy on CO2, but electrolysis takes care of that, and since water is the most abundant substance on the planet and at least in part is a by product of its combustion we should be good until the sun burns out :)

Now we're on the same wavelength! :P

In fact Euro 5 & 6 emissions limits prove that a DPF equipped car is at least as '' clean '' as far as p.m. is concerned as a petrol engined car as both euro 5 & 6 have a limit of 0.005g / km - & it's entirely possible that a petrol car could emit higher levels of p.m. than a DPF equipped diesel car

If you have the under tray on he can't take it off to inspect it so can't see the dpf anyway , I gutted mine an the heat sheild hides the welds best thing I ever did

Our renault got an MOT advisory because the undertray was fitted making certain checks impossible! We also got an advisory because a child seat in the rear obstructed Seat belt checks.. yet it still passed.

Pathetic! Haha

MOT Inspectors just covering their butts.

If they were to pass a vehicle and it was then inspected by VOSA and problems found, then they have recorded that they couldn't check something due to the non-disassembly regulations.

The guard has never been picked up on on any MOT since 2006 (2003 car) though.. it's been cracked and insecure yet not insecure enough to allow them sightlines for god knows how long! Then we had it replaced and they pointed it out -_-.

Not my car anyway, so I couldnt care less! It's the grandparents

Is anyone able to provide good recommendations on DPF gut/remap? Considering it but looking for feedback from those who have already had it done on who they've used and their experiences.

Been quoted £450+VAT including a Powerflow remap but from what I've been reading that sounds potentially quite steep!

I wouldn't pay a penny over 400 inc vat. course that depends if the remap is a proper job, more often than not its an off the shelf map applied. custom maps take a lot longer, if you get a custom map you would expect to see a before an after trace from dyno runs

Oh an as for the dpf, you'll not miss it :D

Definitely not, been the bane of my ownership of this car which I love otherwise.

The map I've been quoted on is an off the shelf one from Powerflow (http://www.powerflow-tuning.com/).

Do you have any recommendations of places I could speak to if you've had it done before? Much prefer referrals from people with past experience and good feedback!

Not near you I'm afraid, but id suggest using a company that advertises that the map is NOT custom, the ones that kid on they are or don't mention off the shelf maps are probably hiding something

Thanks for the advice. Are there any known side effects to be aware of before getting it done?

He mentioned EGR delete/blanking aswell...what would be the benefits if any?

I recommend physically blanking the egr rather than electronic delete,

See guide and benefits of blanking here: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/42915-guide-fitting-egr-blanking-plate-16tdci-engine/

Well the only negative I can think off is the drop in MPG, once you have the extra power, its kinda hard not to use it

Watch the clutch an as you start to drive like Lewis Hamilton you might wear the brakes more as well

:D

Can the DMF take the torque? That's what I'd be worried about!

I know of at least one that has done 18k without any issue, it always had a noisy gearbox and its not changed, no obvious signs of slipping clutch or anything. It is however coming up on 80k so once the timing belt etc has been replaced and inlet manifold cleaned out along with new seals, looking at the DMF/clutch will be next.

I have a feeling there are others on this site that have been running at plus 130HP with 280 to 300Nm of torque on their 1.6tdci for a lot longer tho

That has to be the quickest pit stop the Mclaren boys have done all year, how the mighty have fallen :(

Thanks Dee sounds promising. Hoping they might pick up on this thread and be able to chip in.

Mine is on 118000 and timing belt was done on 105000 so not been on that long in the grand scheme.

Is there any way to find out what the tolerances are for the stock clutch/dmf on a particular model or reg?

Not near you, but I travelled a lot further to get mine done - dpf delete and stage 1 remap at Avontuning near Bristol - their web site includes a good explanation of what they do and why http://avontuning.co.uk/services/dpf-diesel-particulate-filter-removal-delete/. Can't remember how much I paid but it was a lot less than £400. That was over £25k miles ago and not had a single problem with it since, not while driving nor at MOT time.

They offered to blank and delete the EGR at the same time which I didn't do, but now wish I had. I had already bought the blanking plate and was going to do it myself but never got around to it. I ended up going back for a diagnosis when the car went into limp mode due to glow plugs failing and got the EGR done at the same time - blanked and electronically deleted. Can't rate these guys highly enough. I will be going back for a Terraclean there when next in that area.
