Ford Mondeo 1.8 Tdci Engine Stopped.... Chain Slipped??

Featured Replies

Hello

Hopefully this is in the right place

I have a 2007 Mondeo 1.8 TDci with 65,000

Driving home the other night it started to run rough then stopped as I was driving along.....

Got it home and gave it a compression test and pretty much nothing there.....

Off with the head and I can see where valves on number 4 have touched the piston but on taking the valves out they dont appear to be bent.

Engine has a timing belt and a timing chain (I think)

The timing belt was replaced about a year ago so my thinking is the timing chain has slipped or tensioner broken or something like that?

Will be taking the covers off the timing chain tonight.

Has anyone had this before? I'm I walking a well worn path?

Also I'm struggling to find the engine number?

Thanks is advance

DM

Not clear whether this is a Mark 3 or Mark 4, but

Close to zero compression on all four cylinders? A bit surprised by that unless the cam has stopped rotating.

On the Mark 4 2L at least the finger followers should crumple rather than letting the valves bend. How well this works in practice is perhaps another question but that is the idea.

Maybe the timing belt was aligned badly. Maybe it has shed some teeth. Maybe the belt has shredded. Maybe the belt has jumped some teeth probably because the tensioner is 'bad'. Maybe the chain has broken (not frequent but it can happen eventually). You'll know more when you look.

up to October 07 the 1.8 has a chain and a belt, after october it has two belts so depending when your car was built the second belt could be the problem.

Hello

Not zero comp but very little.

Timing belt from cam to injector pump was on just fine.

Yes I believe this has the belt and chain

Where do I find the engine number?

never known a chain or tensioner to let go but have seen the belt in oil version shred to bits.

engine number should be on your v5 document

engine code is on vin plate

V5 says engine number is 8B17821

So would the number be 8B17 ?
