Advice On 2 Mondeos

Featured Replies

Hello, first post and I'm looking for some advice.

Looking to buy a ford mondeo and i have two choices im considering,

a 2006 Mondeo Titanium 2.0l duratec tdci with 80,000 miles on the clock, 9 months mot and

a 2007 Mondeo lx 1.8l petrol with 80,000 miles 4 months mot.

Both are the same price give or take £50 and insurance is very similar. I know the diesel engines last much longer than petrol but is it worth it for the 07 model due to the year??

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Depends on the mileage you do. If you do intergalactic miles go for the diesel, if you do only around 100 miles a week and short trips definitely the petrol. The DPF and EGR is a pain when it comes to short trips, and will cost you considerably more in maintenance.

Horses for courses really.

Cheers for the response. To be honest I probably wont do long haul trips anywhere near as much as just nicking about around 100 miles a week as you say. Thanks

Definitely a petrol car if your mileage is low & your trips are short

Also there is an impending war on diesels now that people are waking up to the fact they are polluting, any tax breaks will soon be over and as a knee jerk reaction I reckon diesel owners will be financially forced back to petrol or alternative fuel sources.

Although the VW cheating is scandalous there's no way diesel power is going away anytime soon because if it does the world will literally come to a grinding halt as worldwide, every heavy commercial vehicle , plant , heavy marine application, tens of millions of private cars etc , etc will need replacing

IF Euro 5 / 6 emissions figures are to be believed, diesel is at least equal to, or less polluting than petrol, however in the grander scheme of things private cars are the least of the worlds pollution concerns, but simply an easy way to raise cash

So go for the petrol for better mpg? I think the diesel will hold its value better considering they are both the same price at this time? Simply due to the fact the diesel can and probably will run for double its current mileage with less problems than the petrol

Diesel will give you better mpg IF driven as a diesel was intended & a properly maintained diesel engine is probably good for at least 250,000 miles BUT diesels are not suitable for multiple short journeys

As has been said go for the petrol unless you are doing long trips.

Okay petrol it is, thanks for the advice

Try finding a decent 2.0 petrol..the 1.8 can develop an appetite for oil as the miles roll on, if I was looking for a petrol Mondy I would buy the2.0 and remove the swirl flaps...or more than likely a 2.5...absolute bargains and great if you do relatively low miles..

There's not much in it between the 1.8 and 2.0 on insurance and mpg....
